If warehouses become too hot, too cold, or lack HVAC, industrial fans are the foremost solution. But facility managers often have to answer an important question: Will a high volume, low speed (HVLS) fan actually save me money and be a smart investment? The short answer is yes – but our air scientists will help you consider all the factors.

Revamping older structures for sustainability can be tricky. But what if there was a way to achieve dramatic energy savings without compromising their heritage? Integrating smart controls with building automation can optimize resource utilization in older structures while maintaining occupant comfort. The best bits? - Energy-efficient climate control: Wireless room thermostats and radiator valves allow for individual room control and integrate with a central building management system for monitoring. Energy-efficient fan coil units can also be used to replace outdated systems. - Occupancy sensors for optimized use: Automatic temperature adjustments based on room vacancy ensure energy isn't wasted on empty spaces. Guests still have individual control when the room is occupied. - Wireless technology for minimal disruption: EnOcean energy harvesting eliminates the need for constant battery changes in sensors.?Wireless communication further reduces installation work and downtime compared to wired systems. - Sustainable benefits: Automation and occupancy detection lead to reduced energy consumption. Integrating with window contact sensors allows for automatic deactivation during ventilation, further boosting efficiency. This approach aligns with building energy regulations promoting renewable energy use. Is this the key to future-proofing our existing buildings? —— Find out more, here: https://lnkd.in/gS7qxP4i #SmartBuildings #BuildingAutomation

Resource Efficient Electrification Re-Mixed "Reduce > Recover > Replace" (NYSERDA) makes a ton of sense from a retrofit optimization perspective. This sequencing allows for smaller heat pump sizing. You’re welcome, capital budget! ?? Except… capital planning, in my experience, rarely fits that sequence. We can’t just ignore remaining useful life. ? What if your boiler needs to be replaced now, your brand new air handler doesn’t have heat recovery, and your windows are good for another decade? Don’t fret; just shuffle things a bit. ?? First, simulate the load impact of heat recovery and high-performance glazing, even if these retrofits will take place far down the road. Next, evaluate a heat pump retrofit now… but sized for the projected future load. This means you will still need a backup heating source; that’s okay! The heat pump will probably still do the majority of the heating. When the time comes for the heat recovery and high-performance glazing retrofits, if you played your cards right, you’ll likely be able to retire the backup heating source. Consider that the smart folks at the CAGBC | Canada Green Building Council’s Zero Carbon Building standard require no site-combustion for OAT ≥ -15°C. ???? And what about the chiller? Here are some high-level options: - If the chiller is also at the end of its useful life: -- For air-cooled chillers, consider a smaller air-cooled chiller. -- For water-cooled chillers, consider: --- An air-source boiler (a.k.a., heating-only air-source heat pump), and --- A separate measure for the chiller (perhaps an oil-free chiller). - If the chiller has considerable remaining useful life, consider an air-source boiler and a separate measure for the chiller down the road. This is not design advice ??. Make sure to reach out to your friendly neighbourhood HVAC engineer for specific design considerations. #decarbonization #heatpumps #electrification #buildingretrofit #REE Building Decarbonization Coalition?
