Bridging the Gap...... VNITAA organized a valuable event to bridge the gap between current students and alumni of the Civil Engineering Department. This initiative, led by Dr. Vaidehi A Dakwale, provided students with a platform to engage with alumni and gain insights into the industry, explore career avenues, and understand the practical applications of their academic knowledge. The interaction with alumni is indeed a powerful way for students to learn about real-world challenges, emerging technologies, and the diverse roles civil engineers undertake. By establishing an ecosystem for students and alumni to connect outside the classroom, VNITAA can foster mentorship, share knowledge on industry trends, and potentially organize site visits. Such visits are excellent learning opportunities that allow students to see the direct application of their studies in infrastructure projects and innovative construction methods. Creating a strong, continuous link between academia and the industry can significantly benefit students in preparing for their careers and can inspire them to excel in their fields.

This is a great programme for young people to get involved in to give them an insight into civil engineering, as well as helping them to develop skills for their future, in the engineering sector or elsewhere. Meet LevelUP Fellow, Shenghua (Edward) Wu, Ph.D.!? Dr. Wu's LevelUP project is entitled: “REAL WORLD ENGINEERING:?Integrating Standards and Specifications Education across the Engineering Curriculum”. This project aims to design and integrate standards and specifications education across the civil engineering curricula within the Department of Civil, Coastal, and Environmental Engineering. To achieve this, we will develop five standalone learning modules tailored for freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, and graduate levels. These modules are designed to seamlessly integrate into existing courses. For lower-level courses, our approach includes hands-on activities that establish meaningful connections with industry, inspiring and introducing students to the world of standards and specifications. Additionally, team-based learning modules will be incorporated into the Civil Engineering Materials Lab course, enhancing student engagement and mastery of standards related to materials. As students progress to higher-level courses, they will actively participate in mock standards development activities. This hands-on experience is intended to further refine their skills, ensuring they are well-prepared for industry standards and specifications, thus bridging the gap between academic learning and real-world application.

The flexibility of this course delivery gives a lot of opportunities for working while studying.

I am Kaleth Torres Campos, a highly motivated, focused and innovative Civil Engineering student; from the initial conceptual stage and feasibility study to the final detailed design. I am passionate about learning and developing new and existing skills, and I enjoy solving problems using analytical methods and engineering principles according to the knowledge obtained at my university "santo tomas". I am interested in obtaining a challenging position in an engineering company that offers early responsibilities and a progressive career path in accordance with and with a certain affinity to structures.

Excited to share my journey at the CEIT program for civil engineering students—a transformative experience packed with hands-on learning and new connections! The CEIT program was an incredible opportunity to expand my technical knowledge and gain firsthand insights into the civil engineering field. Designed for students eager to bridge the gap between classroom theory and practical application, this program brought together aspiring engineers to tackle real-world challenges with innovative solutions. Key Highlights: - Skill Development: I deepened my understanding of [specific skill or tool, e.g., structural analysis or AutoCAD], learning how to approach complex engineering problems with precision and creativity. - Real-World Application:Working on a sustainable building model or infrastructure analysis, I applied what I’ve learned in class to a hands-on project, enhancing my ability to think critically and design efficiently. - Teamwork and Leadership:Collaborating with talented peers, I learned the importance of clear communication and teamwork, skills that are as essential as technical expertise in this field.
