"Thank you for your sacrifice." It's time to shift our language when expressing gratitude to veterans. While "thank you for your service" is a common phrase, it can feel patronizing and doesn't fully capture the character of those who were drafted or volunteered to serve in the military. The oath taken by all military personnel is a solemn vow of allegiance and obedience, one that describes loyalty, commitment, and devotion, at a significant personal cost. -Missed milestones: births, funerals, graduations -Relocating: changing homes, schools, and communities -Toll on physical and mental health -Divorce and broken families We call it the "ultimate sacrifice" when someone gives their life for their country. The phrase 'all gave some, some gave all' encapsulates this sentiment. It's time to recognize the true meaning of these sacrifices. Let's start a campaign to change the language from "thank you for your service" to "thank you for your sacrifice." This more accurately reflects what our veterans have done and given for their country and its citizens. "Camouflage to Corporate Suits: Commanding Sales and Marketing in the Defence and Aerospace Industry."
"Looking Back with a Chuckle: The Waistline Chronicles of a Veteran" As we celebrate another glorious year, I couldn't help but take a nostalgic trip down memory lane. Stumbling upon two photos, 35 years apart, I was struck by a humorous realization. One photo captured my youthful self, freshly commissioned, beaming with pride in my unit. The other, a recent snapshot, where I had the while leaving the army after three decades. Despite the decades that separated these two moments, there was a remarkable constant, other than our proud regimental crest - OUR WAISTLINES! Ah, the military academy! A place where they take raw, enthusiastic youths and sculpt them into lean, mean, fighting machines. It seems the Army has a timeless tradition, immune to generational changes, ensuring that each one of us passes out with a waistline that's enviably slender. But here's the chuckle-worthy twist - maintaining that academy waistline through the years? That's a battle in itself! As veterans, we might fondly remember our youthful physiques, but let's face it, life (and perhaps a few extra helpings at the mess) adds a few inches to that once-slim silhouette. So, here's to the unchanging traditions of the military and the ever-changing waistlines of its veterans. We might not all have the same waistline we did at 20, but we share the same spirit, dedication, and pride. #MilitaryHumor #TimelessTraditions #LeanMeanAt20 #VeteranTales #WaistlineWars ??

“Thank a veteran today” is a simple yet profound reminder that gratitude toward those who have served in the military should be expressed openly. Veterans make immense sacrifices, often risking their lives and enduring hardships to protect and uphold the freedoms and safety of others. The phrase “Grateful for your service” encapsulates this recognition, acknowledging that their commitment goes beyond just a job—it’s a willingness to face danger and make personal sacrifices for the greater good. The idea of “volunteering with your life to keep us safe” underscores the depth of their dedication. Many service members willingly choose paths that put them in harm’s way to ensure the safety and well-being of their communities and countries. Showing gratitude to veterans isn’t just about saying “thank you”; it’s about recognizing that their service shapes our collective security and freedom. Expressing this gratitude can be done in various ways, such as participating in or supporting veteran programs, taking a moment to learn about their stories, or even simply offering words of thanks and respect. Even small gestures can convey the appreciation that veterans truly deserve.

Military Holidays There are three distinct holidays for honoring military personnel and all three are different in who they honor. Some people get confused, so let’s review them and keep it simple: Armed Forces Day 3rd Saturday in May Honors all military personnel now serving Memorial Day Last Monday in May Honors all military personnel who died while serving this nation Veterans Day November 11th Honors those who have served in the Armed Forces Many Americans and businesses try to piggy-back other things onto these holidays. For example, on Memorial Day you’ll find people coming up to veterans and saying, “Thanks for your service.” Please remember, Memorial Day isn’t about anybody’s service. Veterans cringe when they hear this as most vets have lost somebody in combat or training and that phrase, although said innocently and sincerely, is cringeworthy to most vets. It’s not about a mattress sale. It’s not about honoring first responders. It’s not about the first day of summer. Or barbecue. It’s not about anything except honoring those men and women - and the families - who made the ultimate sacrifice for this great nation! That’s it. Don’t add anything else to it. Its simple, but it’s also a somber event and there’s nothing happy about it, so please refrain from saying “Happy Memorial Day.” All three of these events are just single days, not months. So let’s give them the undivided attention each day deserves and focus on what exactly the day is set aside for…spend time with your families and share the meaning of the day with the younger members. Explain what the day is all about. There are many ways to celebrate and/or honor these folks: Visit a military cemetery on Memorial Day, a veterans home on Veterans Day, or send a care package to deployed troops on Armed Forces Day. Our organization is amazing when it comes to honoring these holidays. From placing flags on graves to setting up Missing Man tables to remember the POW-MIA personnel, we enjoy wide support! Many companies just use these days as off-days. Please share these three days with your family and friends! National Cemetery Andersonville, GA

Today, we stand together in deep gratitude and unwavering respect for the courageous men and women who have served our country. Veterans Day is more than a date on the calendar—it is a powerful reminder of sacrifice, commitment, and service that goes beyond oneself. To every veteran who has answered the call to protect and defend, thank you. Your courage inspires us. Your service protects our freedoms. Your sacrifices remind us of the strength it takes to lead and serve. In our fast-paced world, let’s pause and reflect on what true leadership and sacrifice look like. It’s easy to talk about resilience, commitment, and purpose; it’s another thing to embody it in the harshest of circumstances. Today, I encourage everyone to not just remember, but to actively honor our veterans. Reach out, express your gratitude, and reflect on the opportunities you have because of their sacrifices. How will you show up today to honor those who served? Let’s commit together to living a life worthy of their sacrifice. #VeteransDay #Gratitude #HonorAndRespect
