To understand the rank of Fleet Admiral, one needs to consider the context of World War II. The United States was working alongside Allies who had higher ranks like Field Marshals and Fleet Admirals, which were superior to American ranks. To ensure American senior officers were not outranked, the United States established the ranks of Fleet Admiral and General of the Army, both five-star ranks. In total, nine men held these ranks. For the Navy, they were Nimitz, Halsey, King, and Leahy. In the Army, the five-star generals were Arnold, Eisenhower, Marshall, MacArthur, and Bradley.

12 JULY 1862 – ESTABLISHMENT OF THE MEDAL OF HONOR : On 12 July 1862, while the nation was engaged in the American Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln signed into law the measure that called for a U.S. Army Medal of Honor, to be awarded in the name of Congress, “to such noncommissioned officers and privates as shall most distinguish themselves by their gallantry in action, and other soldier-like qualities during the present insurrection.” Lincoln had approved a similar provision that created a U.S. Navy Medal of Valor, which provided the basis of the Army Medal of Honor created by Congress in July 1862. As noted, the Medal of Honor was originally intended to be an award to enlisted members, but in 1863, when the Medal of Honor became a permanent military decoration, it also became available to all members of the Armed Forces, including commissioned officers. The medal is reserved for recognizing those military personnel who have distinguished themselves by "conspicuous gallantry" in actual combat at the risk of life beyond the call of duty. Since its creation in 1862, more than 3,400 men and one woman of the U.S. Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and Coast Guard have received the Medal of Honor for heroic actions. The official name of the award is the Medal of Honor and is awarded by the president in the name of Congress. It is not "The Congressional Medal of Honor." The first U.S. Army recipients of the Medal of Honor were six members of a raiding party who penetrated deep into Confederate territory during the Great Locomotive Chase of 1862.

Taking a moment to recognize the true meaning behind Memorial Day. It's more than just a holiday; it's a solemn tribute to honor U.S. military personnel who lost their lives serving our nation. Today, we remember the freedom brought by their courage, and it's our duty to honor their memory by upholding the values they fought for. Have you ever wondered what core values the DoD and each Service live by? Here they are: DoD: Duty, Integrity, ethics, honor, courage, and loyalty. Army: Loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage. Marine Corps: Honor, courage, and commitment. Navy: Honor, courage, and commitment. Air Force: Integrity first, service before self, and excellence in all we do. Coast Guard: Honor, respect, and devotion to duty. Many people know what these words mean, but how often do we see someone actually live up to them? A question worth asking ourselves, and a great day to begin living by these values as a way to honor our history and freedom. As we enjoy this day, let's take a moment to reflect, to honor, and to remember the true essence of Memorial Day. Let's honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice and strive to live up to the values they fought for. #MemorialDay #HomeoftheFree #HonorThem ????

Telling Your Military Story 2.0 Let me introduce you to one of the United States Navy’s newest sailors, Seaman Recruit Khalil C. Revels! Seaman Recruit Revels is entering the Navy as a 5th-generation military member, following in the footsteps of his cousin, uncle, great uncle, grand uncle, and great-grandfather! So proud of my nephew! In the U.S. military, it is estimated that a significant portion of new recruits come from military families. According to recent reports from the Department of Defense and various studies, about 30-40% of new enlisted recruits have immediate family members who served in the military, such as parents or siblings. This trend reflects a strong tradition of military service within certain families and communities, contributing to the overall recruitment base. In addition, families with a military history often pass down values like duty, honor, and service, which can influence the decision of younger generations to enlist. This creates a self-sustaining cycle of recruitment within certain communities, reinforcing military traditions. Godspeed, Khalil!

Join us in wishing #MedalofHonor recipient Michael Thornton a very happy birthday! He is one of 63 living recipients today. ???? On October 31, 1972, then Petty Officer Michael Thornton, an Assistant U.S. Navy Advisor, took part in an operation against an enemy river base to capture prisoners and gain intelligence. Soon after landing, the patrol came under enemy fire. A heavy firefight ensued as Thornton and those near him acted to prevent encirclement. While doing so, Thornton learned that the senior advisor, Lieutenant Thomas Norris, had been hit. Thornton risked his life through a hail of enemy fire to take his wounded comrade to the shore, swimming with him on his back for two hours until picked up by friendly forces. For saving Norris’s life and the successful extraction of all the patrol, Thornton was awarded the Medal of Honor on October 15, 1973 by President Nixon. At the time of the action, Thornton was one of only about a dozen U.S. Navy SEALS still in Vietnam. In previous interviews, Thornton remarked that the Medal of Honor, “…belongs to every man and woman who’s ever served our country or is going to serve our country. I’m a custodian of the Medal.”

LtCol Scheller is spot on. 28 of the 34 recently retired four-star U.S. military officers went to work for the arms industry, a revolving door that drives soaring profits and near-record military spending. "The revolving door is a problem because it creates the appearance—and in some cases the reality—of conflicts of interest in the making of defense policy and in the shaping of the size and composition of the Pentagon budget." Beyond the $200k+- pension for life, many General's also finagle 100 percent VA disability benefits - because of their rank and influence. These perfumed princesses developed a military culture where they are untouchable and beyond scrutiny.....as evident by their piss poor performance in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kabul Debacle.... We have undoubtedly the best military with unmatched equipment and superior troops....but we lack the senior military leadership. Lions led by self-serving Sheep. General's (and politicians) should be barred from holding shares and working for the MIC, defense related corporations, foreign governments....for 5 years after retirement.
Talked to Ramaswamy about the corruption in America's senior military ranks. The American military is rotting from within. While General Mattis (General Dynamics), General Dunford (Lockheed Martin), and other prominent military personalities profit off war and the efforts of young enlisted service members, people like Ramaswamy bring attention to the problems. It was cool meeting him.
