Personal post: Like most of us, I am extremely worried about the future due to climate change, and most especially for the irreversible harms that lie ahead in my child's, and all children’s, futures.
Seeing headlines like the below fills me with fear and dread for my little boy. I am in a sort of daily shock and despair at the failure of so many in privileged positions of influence and power to grasp the gravity of what is happening and the danger that faces our kids.
But even worse than this, are the efforts to defy entirely the unequivocal action that kids need us to take. In the last couple of weeks, experts have shared several reports on a major worsening of the climate and biodiversity crisis, and far worse predictions for the world our kids will now grow up in. The only way we can protect our kids and grandkids and limit the harm ahead, is to reduce the emissions currently destroying their futures.
Actions by industries to instead increase their emissions-producing outputs, some on a massive scale, despite the costs to children's futures is unforgivable. As is the action of those serving to amplify these voices instead of those who can help us limit the risk and harm our kids face.
To ignore the science, to worsen the odds for our own children and grandchildren is by any objective measure madness.
Since when was giving kids a livable future optional?
