Vision Zero is making transformative changes so you can make every month Bike Month! Recently, a quick-build, two-way separated bike lane was tested on E Broad Street with a pop-up event. Members of advocacy organizations, a variety of City and Council staff, Vision Zero partners and residents who bike came together to evaluate the new barrier and bike facility types used at the event. Feedback from this event has shaped the design of an exciting new demonstration project on E Broad Street. Thanks to the federally-funded Safe Streets for All project, Columbus will soon add protected bike lanes to E Broad Street later this year. Using quick-build safety projects to reduce crashes is a key strategy in our Vision Zero Action Plan 2.0 (2023-2028). I met with Reed Andary from Beep, Inc. this week and learned about their #transportation services. Their #solutions are a mix of cutting edge technology, environmental #sustainability, and #equity and access. They have a #cool factor that is compelling but more than that I was drawn to their mantra of All for one. Mobility for all. #Beep is an example of a #socialenterprise business putting people and planet first. As we enter week 2 of our Safer Streets Now! $30k for 30km/h campaign, we want to share the @NotJustBikes video published on Streetsblog USA back in June. It demonstrates vividly how slower streets are a vital part of healthier cities: - they lower noise levels - drastically reduce the risk of serious injury or fatality for anyone involved in an automobile crash, and - make city conditions more inviting for people to live in their skin - instead of cars. ...And for the mom who insists she needs an SUV to keep her kids safe on the way to school, there's a neat physics reminder about *just how* massive cars wreck your credibility as a caring parent. In the coming months, BCCC's advocacy efforts will be focused on winning our next reform to BC's Motor Vehicle Act: 30km/h max speeds on neighbourhood streets across the province. We KNOW you want to be part of the solution. Right now, your generous contributions of $20< will be matched by an anonymous donor - if we can reach our $30k goal. Please visit our Safer Streets Now! campaign page and enable this important work! https://lnkd.in/gJDFSxbG

California can't be a climate leader if we don't support active transportation. The California Bicycle Coalition is advocating to keep active transportation funding in the state budget (Governor's budget slashed active transportation and other climate initiatives), as well as legislation to establish new programs to fast-track better bikeways. Asm. Laura Friedman's Quicker and Better Bikeways Bill is one way California can speed up-not slow down-making trips by bike possible for more people. #activetransportation #advocacy #legislation #activetransportationprogram

COLLECTIVESUN OUT & ABOUT! Last week, our CollectiveSun team took a step out of the office and into our sunny neighborhood for a special event: a Community Clean-Up Walk! This initiative was more than just a walk; it was a team lead demonstration of our commitment to our core values of Community and Simplicity. Equipped with garbage grabbers, recycled bags, sunscreen and intention, we set out to make a positive impact. What surprised us the most was the sheer amount of litter that had gone unnoticed in our daily routines. In just one block, we managed to fill an entire bag with trash. This eye-opening experience highlighted how small efforts can lead to significant changes in our surroundings. By coming together to clean up our local area, we not only enhanced the beauty of our neighborhood, and we also reinforced the importance of taking collective responsibility for our environment. We encourage everyone, whether local or remote, to find ways to contribute to your communities. Organize a clean-up in your area,?share your efforts with us! Thank you to everyone who participated in the clean-up walk and to those supporting from afar. Let’s keep the momentum going and continue to make positive impact, one small step at a time! #CollectiveSunOutAndAbout #CommunityCleanUp #TeamEffort #MakeADifference #SustainabilityInAction #CommunityImpact #TeamValues #SmallEffortsBigImpact #EnvironmentalResponsibility #CollectiveResponsibility #LocalImpact #NeighborhoodCleanup #ActLocally #SimplicityInAction

Such a helpful recap from Jacob, providing details on the climate impact of the startups that appeared in our special #PNWClimate week edition of #FoundersLive #Seattle! Apply to pitch at Founders Live in your city via link in comments… #founderstories #founder #startup #entrepreneurship
?? Ready for an interesting fact about the 5 Seattle founders who presented at Founders Live for #PNWClimateWeek? ? 1) ?? Ryan Metzger, CEO and Co-Founder of Ridwell, got a huge early start?thanks to a viral Nextdoor post by Ty Wolfe-Jones. Back then they would send a crew to your house via NextDoor and recycle things for you! 2) ??? Tom Gurski of Blue Dot Motorworks is racing to turn your gas car into a plugin hybrid. Even if we shut down the production of new gas cars, we would still be 400% off our Paris Agreement target. 3) ?? Daphne de Jong of Ven is taking on the absurdity of paying up to 80% more for insurance if you drive an electric vehicle. 4) ?? Kim Martini is crowdsourcing critical ocean data through smart watches to replace multi-million dollar equipment that ocean scientists are using. 5) ?? Xenia Dolovova of Furniture Repair Bank will repair your furniture and give it to resettled refugees and people who recently experienced homelessness. We already have 92 million TONS of discarded furniture in our landfills ?? So much passion and creativity in #Seattle to solve massive problems. Props to: Georgetown Steam Plant CDA, Sarah O'Sell, Ty Wolfe-Jones, Amelia Marckworth, Kelly Lawton-Abbott, JD/MBA, Louis Newkirk, Luis Antezana, Gary Malcolm, Raxit J., Nick Hughes, Melissa Reaves, Story Fruition, LLC, Bill Sablan, Nick Ellingson, Koki Sato, WTIA, NOW CFO, Countsy
