? Big News from the Production line! ? Back in June, we shared our excitement about installing a new coordinate measuring machine (CMM) to boost our precision and quality control. However, we quickly realized that the original machine wasn't the perfect fit for our building – its need for a large (and noisy) compressor, plus even the slightest vibration (like a footstep next door!) affecting sub-micron measurements, meant it wasn't ideal for our space. Thankfully, the incredible team at Aberlink Ltd came to the rescue! ?? They not only took the machine back but recommended an even better solution for us – the Extol, the world's first delta-style CMM. ?? This innovative machine, which won the prestigious King’s Award, has been a game-changer for us. It’s quieter, more energy-efficient, and perfectly suited to our shop floor environment, giving us stability and precision like never before. Oh, and did we mention? It’s equipped with carbon fibre parts too. ?? Moral of the story: Never settle for less than perfect. The story about Silvent – how it all began. It became apparent in the beginning of the 1970s that many people in industry suffered from hearing loss. Blowing with compressed air was one of the processes that generated the most noise. The noisy industry demanded new technology. A new way of blowing with compressed air, which could replace the noisy open pipe solutions commonly used in the industry. An prototype air nozzle was developed and patented. DATA FANS- WE HAVE AN EXCITING UPDATE! We at Matereal are on a mission to decarbonize and detoxify the plastics supply chain leveraging breakthrough chemistry and AI. We've had the data to prove our decarbonization work and today we are over-the-moon to share our early detoxification data. We knew that isocyanates in polyurethanes were BAD but until today we didn't have numbers or a methodology to help us prove it. Thanks to USEtox [www.usetox.org] @UNEP's Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) Life Cycle Initiative for characterizing human and ecotoxicological impacts of chemicals (the LCA for toxicity) we now can. "The results of the assessment conclusively showed our NIPU production process was associated with at least a 500,000x reduction in risk to human health compared to isocyanate-based PU. In an indoor industrial environment, where this assessment is most relevant, the NIPU process was shown to be nearly 1,000,000x less toxic than the PU process due to the avoidance of using highly toxic isocyanates." Now we know we have more work to do to continuously validate this data as this is a bold claim, but we take this as an exciting step in the right direction in making our #environmentaljustice case more tangible.
