?? Embracing Second Chances: My Journey to Becoming a CA Article at EY ?? Three years ago, fresh out of college, I found myself at a crossroads. Instead of diving straight into my dream career in the Chartered Accountancy (CA) industry, I had to fulfill obligations and join my family business. It was a challenging time, knowing that my dreams were on hold. For two years, I juggled responsibilities that didn't align with my passion. Each day was a reminder of what I wasn't doing. It was tough, emotionally and mentally, to see my aspirations slipping away. But I stayed strong, knowing that one day, I might get another shot at my dream. As the two years came to a close, an opportunity emerged. It was a glimmer of hope, a chance to restart my CA journey. I knew this was it - my last opportunity to pursue what I truly loved. With renewed determination, I dived in headfirst, giving it my all. The road was far from easy. Late nights, intense studies, and countless sacrifices became my new norm. But with perseverance and unwavering focus, I passed both groups CA intermediate with flying colors. Today, I'm proud to share that I am a CA article at EY, a milestone that seemed distant just a few years ago. My journey has taught me that not everyone gets a second chance, but if you do, make the most of it. Embrace it with everything you've got. My first 100 days (actually a little over than 100) at Deloitte USI as a US Tax Consultant have been a whirlwind of learning, challenges, and growth. Starting with intensive training, I quickly transitioned into real client work, navigating the complexities of U.S. tax regulations. The steep learning curve was humbling, and peak season brought intense workloads, long hours, and the pressure to deliver accurate results. Despite moments of doubt and exhaustion, I adapted, thanks to the support of my team and mentors. Along the way, I learned the importance of clear communication, time management, and resilience. Greetings connections! It is going to be a year since I started my articleship in Deloitte and here’s a few things I have learnt: 1. Knowledge about your domain: It is very important to know what your domain is really about before joining the firm. Many people choose the firm over domain, but it is very important to utilise your articleship period to understand this course’s prospects. 2. Importance of getting small/private clients for audit: There’s a myth that if you don’t get listed clients, you will not get enough exposure. In fact, if you get smaller clients, you get to do the audit of more areas, and a better understanding of the client’s business environment. 3. Being professional: There’s no denying in the fact that Big 4 has a lot of pressure with busy seasons, deadlines and high demands from clients, but it helps us in understanding how to handle this professionally. "Is Articleship from Big4 worth it ?" Asked by a student who gave CA Inter exams in May 2024 on a topmate.io call yesterday. Let me put all the points in front of you and then you decide in the comments, is it worth or not. [1] Big 4 Articles have to work even overnight and sometimes (or, all the time) it leads to sacrificing there CA Final studies. - So, not worth it. [2] Big4 Articles have extensive knowledge of corporates which will remain with them in their entire career - So, worth it. [3] Big4 Articles usually face a lot of corporate politics which at times disturb there mental peace - So, not worth it. [4] Big4 Articles usually go to big clients which provides them with great exposure - So, worth it. [5] Big4 Articles spend there entire articleship in 1 domain due to which it's difficult (though, not impossible) to shift domain after qualifying - So, not worth it. [6] Big4 Articles are considered to be rich, just because of the stipend (If this is a deciding factor) - So, worth it.
