Are you looking for meaningful ways to support youth development and mentorship? Here are some ideas of activities you can engage in with students: 1?? Arrange a virtual or in-person job shadow so students can gain firsthand exposure to the day-to-day responsibilities and realities of your career. 2?? Offer constructive feedback and guidance on student projects or assignments related to their career interests, helping them refine their skills and ideas. 3?? Host a webinar for students tailored to your specific industry. In addition to discussing skills within your career, share skills universal to any industry, such as time management, professional etiquette, and networking strategies. 4?? Conduct mock interviews with students, simulating real-world interview scenarios and providing valuable feedback on their performance, communication skills, and confidence. 5?? Facilitate an internship or apprenticeship opportunity on-site or virtually to give students the chance to gain hands-on experience and mentorship in their chosen field. 6?? Coordinate or participate in career fairs or expos. If you would like to host any of these experiences for students, comment down below so we can help you get started!

“Communication is about what is received, not what is intended. If there is a gap between what you are saying and what they are hearing, you have to find a new way to say it.” Saw the above quote in Atomic Habits author James Clear’s 3-2-1 newsletter and it got me thinking. The truth hurts: Our messages often aren’t landing. Communication's true test? What they hear, not what you say. The gap between intent and reception is where we fail to get our point of views across. All is not lost though. Consider: ? Tailoring your language to your audience ? Reading body language and facial cues ? Asking for feedback to ensure understanding ? Using analogies to clarify complex ideas Mastery lies in bridging this divide between intent and reception. Find new paths. Speak their language. P.S. What's your go-to tactic for ensuring your message is received as intended? Pictured: Speaking at Prince Holding Group’s career fair for Chen Zhi Scholars held two weekends ago. We are glad to be able to offer close to 50 paid internships for 300 of our scholars.

Implementing engaging, practical curriculum and hands-on learning experiences can ignite enthusiasm for academics. Offering internships, industry projects, and mentoring programs can bridge the gap between theory and practice, making learning relevant to career goals. Additionally, organizing workshops, career fairs, and alumni talks can provide insights into various career paths. Less than 10% of the interview will be discussing your degree. Start building your other 90% by: Joining Student Organizations -> Aim for quality over Quantity -> Aspire for leadership roles Attending Professional Conferences -> So many associations offer HUGE discounts to students -> Network with professionals in your field -> Play the “student card” (I met so many people this way)! Landing Internships -> Plan to attend job fairs -> Engage with your university’s career center Volunteering? -> Many non-profits love student volunteers -> These can build strong narratives for future interviews Exploring relevant certifications/student programs you can in -> Lots of industry associations offer unique programs for students -> Jumpstart your skill set by obtaining a certification early (if you qualify) Stop relying on your college degree to get you a job. Your college degree is simply a small chapter in your career story. P.S.: What other activities should students engage in?? Let me know in the comments! Repost to help students in your network
