We are very proud to have welcomed two amazing gynecologic oncologists (Dr. Danielle Chau and Dr. Devin Miller) to Virginia Oncology Associates who have helped establish a Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) program to treat ovarian cancer at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital. "In February 2024, Kirby was Dr. Chau’s first patient to undergo HIPEC at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital. Dr. Chau removed Kirby’s cancerous organs, then filled Kirby’s abdomen with the heated chemotherapy solution to kill any remaining cancer cells." We’re honored to share a breakthrough in ovarian cancer care for Hampton Roads! When Becky Kirby was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer, she became the first patient to receive Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital. Thanks to this innovative treatment, Becky is now in remission and excited about the future. She donated a bell to her surgeon's office for patients to ring when they complete cancer treatment. HIPEC offers a life-extending option for women battling late-stage ovarian cancer for people in the Hampton Roads community. We’re so proud of our dedicated team and the incredible care they provide. ??
