Building a new book of business is no easy feat, especially when transitioning from an established company to a startup. My role is not just about sailing the ship—it’s about building it, cutting the boards, sewing the sails, swabbing the deck, and, occasionally, grabbing the nearest bucket to bail out water below deck. Most days, it’s not glamorous. It’s messy, challenging, and often filled with early mornings, late nights, and seemingly tiny steps forward, and none of that includes the actually supporting our customers. I'm not a traditional sales person and "it" doesn't come naturally. I try to show up authentically with a purpose of helping alleviate issues, knowing that if I do my job correctly, I will help a buyer or business navigate supply chain painpoints. Progress is the goal. And today, I’m celebrating a meaningful milestone: closing my first solo order with Vert. This win isn’t just about the numbers—it’s about personal rebuilding, about proving to myself that I can do this, again. It’s about reinstilling the confidence that success is within reach, even on the toughest days. So, this weekend, I’m taking a moment to celebrate and reflect. To those of you who are also in the trenches, know this: the work may be hard, but it’s worth it. Progress, no matter how small, deserves to be acknowledged. Here’s to more wins ahead—for all of us!

Summer Bag Essentials for Summer ‘24 include some shades, SPF, pre-workout mix and a copy of “Getting to YES : Negotiating Agreement Without Giving In”! I re-read this at least once a year and I always take away something new from it. This is a must have in every salesperson’s toolbox - allowing you to not only close a sale but acquire and retain new business. Selling yourself as a partner first and then your services to the needs of your clients with the intention of building a foundation of loyalty and trust for eachother. No sleazy sales reps here! What’s one of your “must read” picks that have elevated your entrepreneurial mindset?

Just after 2 weeks of landing my DREAM client. I almost burned my business because of 1 mistake. When I landed my first big client, I felt I’d finally made it. They were high-paying, and everyone around me said, “Congrats! You’ve made it.” So, I relaxed. I’ve proven myself. Revenue was flowing, so I stopped showing up as much—thinking I could afford to take it easy. That was my biggest mistake. A few days later, the client reached out with a list of loopholes and gaps. It was an alarming sign of dissatisfaction. → Nobody told me closing a big deal is just the beginning—not the end. I was so busy celebrating the initial win that I forgot to lay the groundwork for what came next. That’s when it hit me: “Landing a high-paying deal isn’t your finish line—it’s the starting gate to a much bigger race.” Every big deal comes with: + Bigger expectations + Bigger responsibilities + Anddd Bigger stakes That's why here are the 3 rules of thumb I’ve stuck to for the past year : 01/ Even after you land that big client, maintain the same energy, visibility, and work ethic that got you there. 02/ Don’t let one project consume all your focus—build a pipeline, foster other leads, and stay proactive. 03/ Treat each deal like a launchpad: use every success story to level up your brand, refine your services, and attract fresh opportunities. Your big break isn’t a final victory—it’s the start of a mountain you still need to climb.

We got rejected on our first pitch. Here's why that rejection was the best thing for us. Starting an agency is hard. Starting an agency with no plan? Even harder. I remember our first pitch like it was yesterday. We were excited. Full of energy. But that pitch? It was a disaster. Why? We didn’t have a clear vision. We didn’t know how to communicate our value. We were too focused on the hustle and not on the strategy. We tried to impress with enthusiasm, but we had no direction. No solid offering. But here's what changed everything: Instead of giving up, we took a step back and asked ourselves: ☆ What do we actually want to offer? ☆ Who are we helping? ☆ What value are we truly bringing to the table? Once we redefined our message and got clear on who we were serving, things clicked. Clients started to come to us, not because we hustled harder, but because we knew exactly what we were offering and why. ☆ The BIG lesson: Energy and passion are great, but without a strategy, they’re just noise. Clarity in your message and knowing who you’re speaking to is what makes the difference.

Who knew that starting your own business is tough? ????♂? Starting your own business is not as easy as it seems, but the rewards are beyond worth it! Yes, there will be sleepless nights, and sure, there may be moments where you want to pull your hair out, but the thrill of seeing your business grow—even by just 1% each day—is something truly special. Since founding Elev8 Engineering, I’ve come to realise that while the big wins are incredible, but the small victories deserve just as much celebration: ? New client meetings that open doors ? Clients reaching out with roles without me even asking - marketing works guys ? Building relationships with top-tier candidates And that's just the beginning. Alongside these wins, I’m celebrating: ? My biggest quarter yet in Q3 ? Being on the verge of making my first hire—soon to trigger another ? A flood of repeat business from clients who believe in the "Elev8 way" ? Old contacts coming back with new opportunities If you’re considering taking a risk—whether it’s starting a new business, switching roles, or diving into something completely new—know that it’s worth it. Embracing that leap might just lead you to look at your success the way I look at a perfectly cut steak—with pride, satisfaction, and excitement for what’s next. So go ahead, take that risk, and savour every win, big or small. You’ve got this! ??

If you’re a founder, your main job is to sell. I learned this the hard way. When I first started my business, I was knee-deep in every single task. → Updating spreadsheets → Designing the website → Fulfilling orders I worked 8-12 hours a day. But my business was going nowhere. It was crushing. I was doing everything “right,” but I was still stuck. And it was driving me insane. And then I had a realization. My time was the least scaleable resource I had. Why was I wasting it on tasks that didn’t directly fuel growth? So, I made a radical shift. I zeroed in on what really mattered: driving sales and growth. Everything else? Automated or delegated. And that’s when I hit my 7-figure goal. Because here’s the harsh truth: If you don’t have sales, You don’t have a business. Focus on the activities that generate revenue and bring in customers. Delegate the rest. That is the SMARTpreneur way. I’m breaking down exactly how to do this on August 3rd at 9:30 am PDT, for FREE. ?? Special Guest Lara Acosta is joining me to share her business growth journey.
