As a creative, marketer, brand or communication professional, are you in with it? What does this mean? You can create strategies, ads, offline communications, marketing collaterals, and all the other peripheral requirements, but remember that the ideas of the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s need an update. Learning and knowing the history is good if you are a fan of Ogilvy's and other greats. Remember, they didn't have digital technology in their time, and now the world is moving on to the digital-first world, thanks to the internet. The framework of thinking has to be updated. As a creative, if you are still stuck on relaying that old-era information to the new generation, it's time to balance it out. It used to be in the past; how it will be is to be focused. Soon, this will also be in the past. So, look ahead, stop adulation and come out of your bubble. Quoting old ideas and ideologies best remains in books, but the modern take has to be executed at the implementation stages to craft that experience. Case in Point: You make a TV ad, and few people watch it. A few from the creative and advertising industry may even note it. Put a review on social media and engage influencers and folks who have the power to sway opinions and create ones. Throw in a little PR with a digital push, and suddenly, the world takes note, and everyone wants to have a slice of the pie - online and offline. This is the power of digital. There are no good ads or bad ads; it's a mindset and audience that accepts it. This is how content is now. Create with a digital-focused approach and branch out the channels.
