Solvents play an important role in regulating the coordination environment of metal ions and ligands in metal-organic frameworks. Therefore, choosing appropriate solvent system for MOF synthesis becomes crucial in order to obtain unique structural properties that would govern various applicqtions. Herein, we design four Ca-MOFs employing one mixed solvent systems, which exhibited distinct Lewis acidity. Exploring this Lewis acidity of these MOFs, alcoholysis of epoxides were investigated. Epoxide alcoholysis is extensively used in industries for the synthesis of polymers and chemical intermediates, which generally employ acid catalysts for high selectivity and yield. Furthermore, we discussed how CO2 uptake capacity changes with different topology, long range dimensionality and coordination environment of these MOFs. Just out in J. Phys. Chem. Letter: we have developed an innovative route to synthesize several calcium alkoxyaluminate salts for the first time. With the salts in hand, we learned that it was the strength of Ca2+?coordination that enable improved reductive stability and overall reversibility: the weaker the better in this case! https://lnkd.in/gnygZ3NR

Not easy to derive via sol-gel route. Nitrates removal and alkaline incorporation are the current issues with established methods. The Imperial Group has used a new route. New route incorporates the Ca and Na ions.

#QTNano: Adsorption of MAPbI3 by Alkali-metal species The adsorption of alkali-metal species on ultra-thin MAPbI3 (methylammonium lead iodide) monolayers is very important for improving the performance and stability of perovskite solar cells. Understanding and controlling this process can lead to better efficiency, longer lifespan, and overall better functionality of these devices. Just to mention one of the impacts: Alkali-metal species adsorption can also improve the chemical stability and moisture resistance of MAPbI3 monolayers. These ions can form a protective layer on the perovskite surface, protecting it from moisture and oxygen, which can damage the material. This protection extends the life of perovskite solar cells, making them more practical for commercial use. Improved chemical stability also means that the perovskite films can be processed and stored under less strict conditions, reducing manufacturing costs. https://lnkd.in/dQx4R_UA
