U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has just announced $6 billion for 33 demonstrations projects aiming to decarbonize industries — by far the single largest US federal investment in industrial decarbonization. Highest awarded sectors are: ?? Cement - $1.55 billion for 6 projects. ?? Steel - $1.5 billion for 6 projects. ?? Chemicals and refining - $1.2 billion for 7 projects. This a big step that will help scale some of the most promising industrial decarbonization technologies while reducing copollutants and creating thousands of jobs. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)?announced?on March 25th a major up to $6 billion investment for 33 projects across more than 20 states to decarbonize energy-intensive industries. ... The emission reductions from the 33 projects are expected to come at an equivalent of more than 14 million metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions each year. Each project will also cut emissions by an average of 77%." #decarbonization #sustainability

If the U.K. is going to have a renewable revolution it needs the electron highways to transport electricity from places of generation to places of consumption so the new pylons will definitely be required. I do agree that planning objections will really slow down the rollout so I think there should be no ability to object the routes and local objections should be seen in light of the total population living close to the proposed areas and not just a few thousand objectors. Therefore, if 10,000 people object out of 1m possible then as they represent only 1% the planning should go ahead with no appeals. This voting system should be specifically for major projects so if people are not bothered and don’t vote by default they should be considered as supporting the planning application. I also agree there should be a compensation package for those within 100m of the high voltage lines but it should be say 5 or 10% of the national average house price at the time whatever that is. The uk needs to have a renewable grid before 2035 so that we are only dependent on ourselves and the cost of electricity should reduce significantly. https://lnkd.in/eTH2C2kQ

As we get ready for the Trump - Harris Debate, let's look at the Main Talking Points for my industry: Oil & Gas Drilling. Thanks to Alex Epstein and Tom Shepstone for these concise comparisons: * To know what to make of Harris’s reversal on a fracking ban, we need to first recognize that banning fracking would have been one of the most harmful policies in US history. It would have destroyed 60% of our oil production and 75% of our natural gas production. * Fracking is very likely the single most beneficial technological development of the last 25 years. By extracting cheap, abundant oil and natural gas from once useless rock, it has made energy far cheaper than it would otherwise be. * Fracking and agriculture: The availability of food is highly determined by the cost of oil, which powers crucial machinery, and gas, which is the basis of the fertilizer that allows us to feed 8 billion people. * Given how life-giving fracking is to humanity and how essential it is to the prosperity and security of the US, any politician who has ever suggested banning fracking should be considered an energy menace until and unless they issue a deeply reflective apology. * Harris has not apologized whatsoever for her support of a murderous fracking ban. And far from questioning the anti-fossil-fuel, “net zero” agenda, she has remained 100% committed to it. Which means she’s an enemy of not just fracking but all fossil fuel use. * Given that “net zero by 2050” requires banning virtually all fossil fuel activity, the whole conversation about whether Kamala Harris wants to ban fracking is absurd. * The Biden-Harris administration has already shown us that they will try to do everything they can to ban fossil fuels in pursuit of net-zero—and that they will only be limited by pro-fossil-fuel political opponents’ opposition and the resistance of voters. * Both Biden and Harris made it clear when campaigning that their guiding energy goal was “net zero by 2050” and that meant rapidly banning fossil fuels. Biden: “I guarantee you, we’re going to end fossil fuel.” Harris’s cosponsored Green New Deal called for banning fossil fuels. * When they entered office, Biden and Harris continued to make “net zero by 2050” their guiding goal by rejoining the Paris Agreement that committed us to it and by announcing a “whole of government” focus on “climate”—code for: rapidly getting rid of fossil fuels. * In action after action, the Biden-Harris administration has shown us that it will do anything it can get away with politically to rapidly eliminate fossil fuels: pipeline blocking, Federal leasing bans, LNG prohibitions, power plant shutdowns, EV mandates, SEC rules, etc.

Very eager to see how the DOE's Industrial Demonstrations Program (IDP) influences the future of clean manufacturing. Its current hope is to tackle carbon emissions in traditionally high-pollution industries. With $6 billion in funding, the IDP promotes electrification across sectors like steel, cement, and chemicals, laying the groundwork for scalable decarbonization. The program also advances technologies like carbon capture and energy storage, though challenges remain, especially around continuous, reliable electricity.
