Find out why having a plan is vital for donor retention in #FatalFundraisingFlaws. “Why a Plan? Providing donors with communications, between appeals and without making another ask, that connects them to their impact is what turns occasional donors into loyal ones. A thoughtful plan for doing so is vital if you want to do it well.” Get your copy of Fatal Fundraising Flaws here: https://a.co/d/9rrZQEn !! ?#DonorRetention #NonprofitStrategy #DonorRelations?

Are you sending out a Spring Campaign letter appeal? ?? ?? Do NOT sit back & wait for your community to check their mailboxes… …Pick up the phone & call them - NOW! ?? ?Layering in phone calls to your most loyal donors will increase the effectiveness of your letter appeal (& your overall Spring Campaign!) ? Here’s why: ? Your community appreciates PERSONAL, INDIVIDUAL OUTREACH (& you should ALWAYS work toward building stronger 1:1 partnerships w/your donors!) ? Calling BEFORE your supporters receive the letter means you can give them a preview (who doesn’t love a sneak peek?!). ? The donor will have MORE TIME to think about their gift (& a potential upgrade!). ? You’ll gain INVALUABLE FEEDBACK from (& insight about!) your org’s supporters. ? These 5-Minute Fundraising Asks will give you a HEAD-START on your Spring Campaign GOALS (& you’ll be able to SHARE THE PROGRESS with your community as the campaign forges on!) ?? Also: You’ll be setting up the opportunity to “circle back” to this community member later in the campaign (if they don’t donate now) OR at Giving Tuesday/Year End (even if they do donate now!) ???: Do YOU have a tip for a specific fundraising campaign? We’d love to hear them! ??: Speaking my truth at the Make It Happen Conference (hosted by magnificent Jess Campbell!---also, hi Courtney Oliphant!). Photo by Camryn Shonka.

I've seen many fundraisers give up when they keep hearing "no" after asking their donors for a major gift. Here's what the fundraising manuals don't share: Fundraising is never just a transaction. You CAN create a perfect setting to ask for that gift. It might be simpler than you think. ?????? Research rocks and provides detailed learning about your donors, including their interests and giving patterns. ???? Listen and tailor your messages to help meet the donor where they are. ?? Build relationships by supporting your donors in what they need to know about your organization. ???? Share how their contributions can make a difference. ?? Ensure you optimize the donation process and enhance donor experiences. ? Know who you're asking. Are they interested in what your organization is doing? ?Do they have the ability to give? How are they linked to your organizations? When the time is right, be sure your actions align with the donor's values and interests. By using these steps, you'll save time, learn about your donors, and unlock more revenue in 2024.

You just got an online donation for $1,000. (WOHOO!) What happens next? You send: ? An email receipt ? Printed letter two weeks later (possibly with a hand-written note) ? E-newsletter ? Invitation to a spring fundraiser ? Solicitation to give to a special project or giving day (multiple times) ? Printed annual report ? Invitation to the annual gala… Sound familiar? It’s a one way street. I see teams stuck doing the same things year after year after year. And donor numbers are dropping. ?? It’s possible to cultivate relationships with donors in a way that doesn’t drive staff into the ground. Ready to switch things up? Here are a few of my favorites: ? A thank you phone call ? Group donor tour or open house ? "Roundtable" with the Executive Director (in person/Zoom) ? Thank you event What have you tried that works?

One of the MAIN reasons why donors don't give more is because they haven't been presented with a compelling offer that aligns with their values. Donors need to feel like their contribution will fulfill a significant need or desire that they care about. As a fundraiser, it's your job to help donors understand the needs your organization is trying to meet, as well as the consequences if they're not met, and then help the donor see how they play an essential role in meeting the need.
