Influence or Action? Nah, True Leaders Need BOTH. Early in my career, I thought leadership was all about charisma and big ideas. I was the king of brainstorming, but when it came to execution... crickets. It was a reality check, but it taught me a crucial lesson: influence without action is just empty promises. On the flip side, I've seen leaders who were all action, no inspiration. They'd steamroll projects, leaving a trail of burnout and resentment. Action without influence is just dictatorship. True leadership? It's where these two forces collide. It's having a vision that makes people want to follow you, AND having the guts to get your hands dirty and make it happen. ?? Influence: The spark that lights the fire. It's the passion that draws people in and makes them believe in something bigger. ?? Action: The fuel that keeps the fire burning. It's the relentless pursuit of the goal, no matter the obstacles. Combine these two, and you've got a force that can change the world. Next time you face a leadership challenge, ask yourself: ?? Dear Leader, It’s going to be an amazing week! Were you able to join Mayowa Adegoke and I on Leadership Conversations over the weekend? If not, I highly recommend catching the recording—it was packed with actionable insights. Here are a few of my biggest takeaways: 1. Authenticity starts with self-awareness. You can’t be yourself if you don’t know yourself. Embrace who you are, trust that your uniqueness is valuable, and find the spaces where you belong. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to authenticity. 2. Lead with an abundant mindset. Believe there’s space and opportunity for everyone to thrive. This frees you from the need to conform or seek validation at the expense of your values. 3. Compromise wisely. Compromise can be necessary, but know your non-negotiables. Authenticity requires clarity on what you won’t sacrifice. 4. Influence starts with alignment. People are drawn to leaders whose actions align with their words. Live the truths you teach to inspire others. ??Bonus lesson: Always have a backup plan—especially for technology! We had a few interesting hiccups during the session.
