Today's prize for optimistic #HotTake at #HIMSS25 goes to Angie Bass, MHA of Michigan Health Information Network Shared Services (MiHIN) / Velatura Public Benefit Corporation. An inspirational statement that #MobileMedical #Fire #EMS #Ambulance #CriticalCare #CommunityParamedicine agencies -- in #Michigan and beyond -- should heed. ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? It came in response to my question re: procurement decisions and the lingering effects that they can have, presenting artificial barriers to collaboration (read: anti-competitive). _____ "Come to an agreement where we can all agree to advance this interoperability and make it work together. We can align on standards we can rely on governance, and we all march in the same direction on the hill at our state legislatures to make it happen. "We get all the hospital associations and primary care associations [and Ambulance and Fire and Community Paramedicine associations!] as we get them all out walking on the line because we are committed to actually doing it...come up with better models. "Come up with better approaches of collaboration and working together. Come to business agreements where we say you teach this market...This is not a technical problem. [It's a ] political and business problem." **** (Hello, Mobile Medical Innovation Roundtable!) **** But as Craig Behm noted in his response to the same question: INNOVATION FINDS A WAY. Our market's needs are manifold and they are overlapping. No one firm or technology needs to do it all (nor can they, historically). Which means we get a choice: when there is a state- or system- wide contract hanging over like a glass jar, we can lament the lack of opportunity and the effects of monopoly. OR...we can do what companies like Lockheed Martin, Leidos and General Dynamics have done forever, namely, figuring out what parts of the need and value chain were LEFT OUT in that overarching contract, because no contract covers every possible need forever. Find the white spaces and provide value there. When you do, something MAGICAL happens: competitors become collaborators, and the size of the entire piece expands. ______ Angie also referenced the size of the "pie," saying no one org needs or CAN consume it all. What if that the pie just...keeps...getting...BIGGER? Like U.S. healthcare, there will always be something to do, challenges left to solve, new ones emerging for each win (yes, whack-a-mole). What if there is more than enough market space to satisfy everyone PLUS more where that came from? What's needed is a mentality shift in going from competition to coopetition to collaboration to mutual and collective benefit. (Think this isn't possible? It's happening NOW, and I can't wait to tell the world all about it.) #DinosaurShadows #DisruptiveInnovation #CreativeNondisruption #NondisruptiveCreativity #BlueOceanStrategy /// H/T Janée T. , Jeff Nguyen, Rex Osborn , Jeff, Emily - great seeing you Emily Mata, Michael , Scott, Daniel, Erica, Steven , John,
