I hate Sports day! ?? And summer is here, and the dreaded sports day is in full swing! The only thing I remember was it was too hot, my nerves were in action, everyone was watching and had to give a damn and get into the sporty spirit for a plastic trophy or medal. ?? But I have never been very athletic, or fast. I never liked these types of sports. Sports day was my worst nightmare. I was on show. I knew I was going to fail. And I hated those black clammy shorts we had to wear with our t-shirt tucked in. I felt exposed, scared, knowing I was being pushed into something which just did not play to my strengths. Being put in a team where the others excelled and tutted when I failed. Wishing it would rain, so it would be called off.??? And it continued as I grew older at mummy’s race.? My children cheering me on, and then disappointed when I LOST! I said, “It’s not the winning, it’s the taking part!” Yeah right! Can we please replace sports days with other activities? It's not inclusive!! How about dance, a sports match, singing competition, badminton, anything but the running race and bloody rounders… It’s a little bit like Leadership. Would you really put your employees into situations and projects that are not going to play to their strengths, stress them out, affect their confidence and wellbeing? Why do we have School sports days anyway. It’s out-dated!? Do we want our Leaders thinking this way? #inclusion #summertime #sportsday #mentalhealth #strengths

Basketball is literally a living part of me! At this point in my life, the piece that makes me love it even more is when I can share my basketball experiences with young people for the purpose of showing them that this sport is bigger than the game. So much of basketball offers a cheat sheet for navigating the complex journey we all know as life. This past week I had the honor of reconnecting with Sonia Chase to work at her Nike basketball camp in Baltimore, Maryland. I first worked with Sonia Chase more than ten years ago. It was then that I realized her camps are different ON PURPOSE! Growing as a person alongside basketball development has always been, and continues to be, a foundation of all of Sonia's camps. I genuinely appreciate this! Over the course of camp, I led two workshops with the campers : 1) Character Development and 2) Peace Building. Who you are and how you treat people matters so much more than what you can do with a basketball. It is critical for children to know this and to practice it in everyday interactions. Take a look at one of the videos that recaps what the campers actually got out of the Peace Building workshop. We talked about the importance of depositing peace - through appreciation - into others' lives exactly how you would want someone to do it for you. Showing appreciation is HUGE because it is SELFLESS!!! I am proud of their responses because I did not coach them on what to say. I simply asked them to repeat what they shared so that I could catch it in a video. Young people are amazing to me, and their responses largely capture why I choose to remain in education. We just can't live without the kids! #characterbuilding #peace #youthbasketball #urbaneducation #appreciation #youthleadership #studentathletes #baltimorecitypublicschools #BCPSS

This is what I believe on how we should approach Youth Soccer Development here in the US: It's essential to look beyond immediate performance and see the potential in every young athlete. Just because a player doesn’t “fit” or isn’t “good enough” for a certain team doesn’t mean we should brush them away and simply wish them luck. This outdated approach overlooks the unique growth trajectories and potential of many young players. Youth development in soccer requires a shift in mindset. Instead of focusing solely on current skills, teams should embrace a philosophy that nurtures all players. Every child who steps onto the field brings a unique set of strengths and potential. It’s OUR responsibility as coaches, mentors, and supporters to help them discover and develop these qualities. Now, what if we focused on fostering a supportive and inclusive environment? What if, instead of cutting players, we invested in their growth, providing tailored coaching that addresses their specific needs and potential? By doing so, we not only help individual players reach their full potential but also create a richer, more diverse talent pool for the future. This approach benefits everyone involved. Players gain confidence and skills, knowing they have the support they need to improve. Coaches develop a deeper understanding of each player’s abilities and how to bring out their best. Teams become stronger, not just through immediate performance but through the long-term development of their members. Let's rethink youth soccer development. Let’s foster environments where every young athlete has the opportunity to grow, succeed, and feel valued. By investing in all players, we build stronger, more resilient teams and communities. #YouthDevelopment #Soccer #Inclusivity #PlayerGrowth #TeamBuilding #SupportiveCoaching #FutureStars #Empowerment #LongTermSuccess

The Milwaukee Youth Sports Alliance champions the crucial role of exercise in managing mental health among athletes. As advocates for the holistic well-being of young sports enthusiasts, we understand that physical activity not only enhances physical fitness but also nurtures mental resilience. Through tailored training and resources, we empower athletes and coaches alike to recognize the profound connection between physical exertion and mental wellness. By integrating structured exercise routines into their lives, athletes can experience a profound sense of accomplishment, improved mood, and reduced stress levels, fostering a conducive environment for optimal performance both on and off the field. At the heart of our mission lies the belief that sports should serve as a platform for personal growth and development, transcending mere physical prowess. By prioritizing mental health alongside physical training, we equip athletes with invaluable tools to navigate life's challenges with resilience and determination. Through collaborative efforts with coaches and stakeholders, we strive to cultivate a culture that values mental well-being as highly as athletic achievement, ensuring that every participant in our programs emerges not only as a skilled athlete but also as a mentally resilient individual poised for success in all aspects of life. #mentalhealthawarenessmonth #sport #youthsports #advocacy Teammates- Milwaukee Recreation America SCORES Milwaukee Milwaukee Bucks Inc. I’m a huge fan of the NCAA basketball tournament. The first final four I attended in person was all the way back in 2004 in San Antonio. Twenty years later, I still set aside this special time of the year to indulge in and be entertained by the amazing young athletes giving their all on the court.? Each year, the performances seem to get better and better, but this year — a pivotal year for women’s sports in particular —?totally blew my mind! This feels like a true turning point for the amount of attention that women’s basketball and women’s sports more broadly are receiving. Women’s college basketball is being discussed at dinner tables like never before thanks to tremendous athletes like newly Caitlin Clark, who are showing all young girls out that that hard work and tenacity pays off! Here’s a question everyone can answer: What is Caitlin Clark’s passion? Everyone knows the answer and so do you — basketball! But I have a far more important question: What is YOUR passion? Is that answer as clear? How can you get out of bed and work hard every day without knowing what’s driving you? How can you be productive, fight for what you believe in, or inspire others if you're uncertain about the passion fueling you?? If you’re struggling to find your passion, reach out to me at www.FreshStart2Life.com or DM me. Together, we’ll help you rediscover your life’s true passion. #basketball #caitlinclark #ncaa #womensbasketball #womenssports #wnba #indianafever #athletes #womenathletes #lifeonpurpose #lifecoaching #freshstart #coaching #personalgrowth?#personalperformance #bestlife #purpose #lifepurpose #worklife #retirementlife

? ??Keep Sports Fun: Unleashing the Power of Play???? Ever wondered what sets apart some kids who go on to play high school sports from the rest? In a heart-to-heart with a parent, I discovered a simple yet profound truth that could redefine how we approach youth sports. Contrary to the common belief that success starts with club teams and intense training, this high school baseball player's journey began with one thing – FUN. No pressure, no fancy clubs. Just a group of kids committing to playing baseball together in the summer. Imagine that! No travel team or fall ball in elementary or middle school, just pure enjoyment. It was only in high school that they decided to pursue extra training because the love for the game was already there. Here's the lesson: Let's harness the power of our community to keep sports fun while keeping things in perspective. Yes, there are amazing clubs, but the essence of sports is building character, fostering positive relationships, and teaching life's winning strategies. ???? In the U.S., around 65 million kids play sports in elementary and middle school. Out of them, 8 million become high school athletes, 400,000 play in college, and only 12,000 go pro. With these numbers in mind, our focus should be on what's best for our families. ??? 3 Keys to Keeping Sports Fun: 1. Mix It Up:Engage them in various activities. 2. Seasonal Play: Allow breaks between seasons. 3. Nurture Their Nature: Observe and support what naturally inspires them. Let's redefine success in youth sports – not just as the road to professionalism, but as a journey that builds resilient, well-rounded individuals. ?? #KeepSportsFun #YouthSportsJoy #PlayForLife #parenting #sports #youthdevelopment

What percent of Athletes struggle with Identity Crisis after they are done? Athletes dedicate countless hours to training and competing, often from a young age. Their sport becomes a significant part of their identity, shaping how they see themselves and how others perceive them. But what happens when the cheers fade and the game ends? Transitioning out of the intense world of college athletics can lead to a profound sense of loss and confusion for many athletes. Who am I without my sport? What do I value outside of competition? What do I do now? These questions can trigger a deep introspection and a search for a new sense of self. Athletes, coaches, and supporters behind the scenes must recognize and address the identity crisis that can arise post-competition. By providing resources for personal development, encouraging exploration of interests beyond sports, and fostering a supportive community, we can help athletes navigate this challenging but transformative period of their lives. Let's celebrate our athletes not only for their achievements on the field but also for their resilience in facing the complexities of identity beyond the game. Together, we can champion their growth and empower them to thrive in all aspects of life. #whonothow #CollegeFootball #AthleteIdentity #PersonalGrowth #SupportAthletes
