??Today and yesterday, hosted by the EU Directorate for Agriculture and Rural Development, we are attending to a Technical Workshop on Solidarity and Rural Communities. ??Our president Gianluca Pastorelli will contribute to the debate with the SE sector perspective on the subject! This workshop aims to collect evidence, views and experience in relation to challenges, needs, opportunities and issues in diverse rural communities and territories in the EU, in particular: ??What are their key challenges and opportunities stemming from on-going transitions in such various rural environments? ??How to ensure better synergies between farming and rural communities’ needs? ??What are the best policy tools to be employed? #ruralsocialeconomy

New publication?? A happy cow is a more productive cow and cow comfort during the milking process is an important part of the happiness/productivity equation. Milking rates, however, need to be optimised and the balance between optimised rates and optimal cow comfort is an important factor in farming efficiency. VistaMilk-funded researchers have been involved in a project to measure cow comfort (specifically focused on cluster removal settings) by measuring the cow’s leg movements during the milking process. As a city dweller, I am fascinated and challenged by Shawn and Beth Dougherty — and I'm horrified by the precariousness and inherent destruction of our current food production system in the U.S. that they explain. In this audio essay, Shawn and Beth?weave together biblical principles, their personal experience with regenerative agriculture, and a helpful explanation of the science of well-managed grasslands to argue for Christians to take seriously their God-given vocation of caring for the earth. For most people, this vocation is “farmed out” to others; the Doughertys ask us to consider whether enacting our vocation by proxy is good enough and if it is working.
