Donors give to solve problems, not to fund organizations. Around the holidays, connect on an emotional level by sharing impact stories: Whose lives were changed? What challenges were overcome? How did donors play a key role? Make your donor the hero of the story. Use phrases like, "Thanks to your support, [specific change]." This reinforces their crucial role and builds long-term loyalty. Share a favorite story from your work this year, your audience will love it!

Trust. It’s a big deal in fundraising. One way to build it is to keep clean, accurate records. Why? It plays out for donors like: ?? Using their preferred name and spelling it right ?? Sending stuff in the way(s) they want to receive it and ?? Not addressing things to their partner who died (!!) ?? Knowing how much they gave last year when they ask ?? Having their signed pledge agreement on file with the correct payment schedule so you’re also ?? Sending accurate pledge reminders And a biggie... ?? Not "starting from scratch" with every staff transition (TY contact reports!) In other words, showing that you're paying attention, organized, and take their investment – and your mission – seriously. Which is a great foundation for additional giving. ?? What have you seen when it comes to data and trust building?

Why don't all businesses donate a part of revenue to a good cause? ?? We see in our data everyday that it increases businesses performance, AND - It benefits the people needing it most - It helps our nature recover - It makes a business more relevant to future generations, especially Gen Z But don't just take my word from it. Watch as?Laura?tells you exactly why?Contribe?is a simple yet impactful way to do business, all while making the world a better place.

Looking for input here: What's your strategy when your fundraising campaign reaches its goal too soon? I get that it's a quality problem, but seriously. When your org needs the additional funding and is poised to energize outreach, do you raise the goal in the home stretch of the public phase? Or do you stick with your goal, and if so, how do you spur greater giving?

Watch Out for the Assumptions Baked Into These Standard Fundraising Terms Our fundraising practices would be much sounder if we thought of: ?? Prospects as people who are unlikely to give unless we align with their purposes and values ?? Donors as temporary contributors ?? Lapsed donors as the mistakes we refuse to learn from ?? A gift pyramid as a delusional organizational theory ?? Fundraising as taking to much credit for what we had too little to do with ?? Campaign phases as artificial constructs that have little impact on human behavior ?? Cases of support as material no one looks forward to reading ?? Giving days as what eats up the time we should be spending on sensible fundraising practices ?? Strategic pillars as wonders of the ancient world ?? A visit from our president as the most dreaded request we make of donors ?? Donor qualification as giving the donor the opportunity to qualify us as worthy of their support ?? Donor acquisition as plausible as a tick bird acquiring a rhinoceros Start there and watch how much more intelligently you go about this business.

Do your proposals feel like frankensteins? ??♂? You know, the ones where one section was pulled from an old proposal, another section came from a recent email you happened to have just written and another section was just written with a totally different tone of voice. Here’s why you have frankenstein proposals: You don’t have a centralized document that holds all their up-to-date, approved, powerful-as-all-get-out language. I am talking about a document that holds everything from your organizational history to your methodology, the problems you are addressing, your program descriptions, your strongest impact numbers, your vision for scale and more. Most NGOs and nonprofits don't have this. So you are in good company if this is you, too. In the small group Funded with Ease intensive, I give you a template for this centralized document, teach you how you write with POWER, and walk you through exactly what to include in each section. Then, once you have this drafted, I dive into the doc and get my hands dirty, to ensure it is best-in-class. Want in to Funded with Ease? Grab your spot below! (We start in 2 weeks and there are a few spots left.) #grantwriting #ngofundraising #grantwritingtools

What if we segmented based on "life lessons"? 5 - Step Strategy to Leverage Donors' Life Lessons in Fundraising 1. Conduct Life Lesson Interviews - Schedule 15-minute calls with key donors - Ask: "What life lessons have shaped your philanthropy?" - Take detailed notes on their responses 2. Create a Life Lesson Matrix - List donors in rows - Use columns for common themes (e.g., "Importance of Education", "Community Support") - Fill in relevant lessons for each donor 3. Develop Personalized Appeal Strategies - For each common theme, craft tailored messaging - Align your organization's mission with their life lessons - Create a bank of stories that resonate with common lessons 4. Implement in Communications - Personalize email appeals using the matrix - In meetings, reference relevant life lessons - Create donor personas based on common life lesson themes 5. Measure and Refine - Track response rates to personalized vs. generic appeals - Conduct follow-up interviews to gauge donor satisfaction - Regularly update the Life Lesson Matrix with new insights The goal is to show donors you understand and respect their values, creating stronger partnerships.
