Consumer & Internet | MoneyHero Group (Nasdaq: MNY) - Nirgunan Tiruchelvam On Wednesday (24th July), MoneyHero announced layoffs of 80 employees. This amounts to about a fourth of its 329 employees. The cuts are taking place at a time when MoneyHero’s management has guided for EBITDA neutrality in FY24. The cuts could improve the operating leverage situation. Operating leverage is the degree that a company can increase operating income by increasing revenue. The job cuts could accelerate the EBITDA position to FY24. Our initial calculations suggest that it could cause EBITDA positivity of US$5m-US$7m in FY24. However, we retain our existing forecasts, as we await further clarity from the management on operational changes. Fintech talent movement in 2022-2023! A sample of 10 Fintechs (2 large and 8 medium size Fintech US employers). Coinbase `s outflow of talent predominately into ?????????????? is staggering and tops them all. 2021 was an exceptional year for Coinbase (its IPO in April 2021) as it added 2,481 employees and closed the year with 3,730 employees. In 2022, it added another 780 employees and in 2023, it cut 950 jobs. The influx of talent to Coinbase over this 2yr period from other Fintechs, is not impressive. Block is the largest employer of this Fintech sample and shows a sizable outflow of talent (not as large as Coinbase) but at the same time, a nearly equal size of influx. Block`s employee growth has been solid and significant. It started 2022 with 8,521 employees and ended the year with 12,428 employees (45+% increase). During 2023 its employee count rose to 13,000 and ended with job cuts at 12,000. BitGo and Brex experienced sizable outflows. BitGo talent going into ??????????????and Brex talent mostly into ?????????????? and partly to Ramp . From this selection of Fintechs that have 1,000 or fewer employees, Ramp saw the largest influx of talent during this period. All other Fintechs have 1,000 or less employees. In all industries, we have seen a drop in the number of founders since 2018. ??????????????????Do any of these talent flows surprise you?
