Telstra announced today a workforce reduction nearing 10% by year's end. Would this impact you if it happened at your company? As an ex-Telstra, news like this always stirs up emotions. I loved my time there and still proudly wear my Telstra cap everywhere. However, there's a silver lining. The redundancy package could be the buffer you need to pivot to something transformative- It could change your life. Many I know with corporate roles dream of something completely different, but don't know where to start. Here's what I've tried: ? Start with your passion → Mine is wine. I volunteered as a sommelier at my wine club. ? Identify your obsession → I love writing. I lose track of time whenever I do it. ? Leverage your skills → Teaching has always come naturally for me, I consistently receive positive feedback through the various teaching gigs I've had. Make friends… and influence the bottom line. It’s a pretty good proposition. Telstra is in the connection game. But it’s people that give purpose to technology. I just returned from the Cisco Partner Summit in LA and tapped into an immensely valuable network of global thought leaders. Whilst I was away, our team surveyed 1000 senior business and public sector leaders to put some actual dollar figures on the value of human connection in business. We wanted to unpack leader-to-leader connection across Australian industry and government. What we found was a Connection Opportunity. From our survey, organisations with highly connected leaders saw revenue growth 5% higher on average compared to those with lesser professional networks. That’s a growth gap of around $15.5 million in lost opportunity for each organisation. From manufacturing to mining, we’ve gone deep on the connection opportunity.
