#TeamGoals Yesterday (after voting of course ? ) the UK team and a few guests got together for the annual Silverfin #summersocial... and whilst someone forgot to tell the weather it was meant to be Summer it mattered not as we we headed to #shuttleclub in Shoreditch for some food, a few drinks and (naturally) some shuffle boarding. Life lesson: After darts a few weeks ago I'm learning that much like in work, in pub sports having a strong team is everything (my way of saying I maybe wasn't the best but was gifted with some ace teammates - Liam Wills and others!) 3 months in to my time at #Silverfin I'm still wowed by how passionate everyone is for what we do and you see that in how all the different business units collaborate, celebrate and work together. Finally, a long-awaited respite from the day (and night) job. For the fortnight leading up to today’s Budget statement, my left eye was involuntarily twitching. Constantly. We witnessed some outrageous feats of lawyering at the AMP offices as we completed the last of a large number of pre-Budget transactions, across a range of sectors (SaaS, agri/propagation, engineering, creative agencies, haulage and two significant cross border deals). Clients were resilient, driven (sometimes belligerent!) but mostly just delighted to get their deals successfully delivered on time and within fee scope. The positive feedback was overwhelming, and also richly deserved. So how did I, as the lead partner on a number of these disposals/acquisitions, deliver those deals? Not on my own, that’s for sure. The same thing that allows me to relax now, in such blissfully calm surroundings, is the same thing which allows me to deliver my best at Austin Moore & Partners – our talented, committed, supportive and bloody brilliant team. You don’t see success without everyone pulling together and doing the extra hard yards to have each other’s backs and get stuff done, especially when the team is running leaner than we'd like at the moment. You don’t get to take a well earned break, without those same legends holding things down back at the ranch. I’ll do the same for them. Thank you team. So, I wanted to share something that’s been on my mind after our fiscal results came out this week. Our CFO had a big grin on their face while announcing that overall company profits were up a whopping 125% year over year! ?? That's incredible news, right? But then came the shocker—I opened my profit sharing cheque and it was nearly 70% lower than last year’s amount. ?? Here’s what I found out: My director mentioned that our company started paying dividends to shareholders. While I understand that shareholder returns are important, I'm left feeling a bit uneasy. Is it really fair to cut profit sharing by such a huge margin when profits are soaring? I can’t help but feel like there’s more to this story. Here are a few thoughts I have: Transparency: Shouldn't employees deserve some clarity on how profits are allocated? Employee Value: If we contributed to that profit increase, why does it feel like we’re not benefiting from it? Future Concerns: Could this trend continue...
