?? Join us this Monday, Jan. 6 from 8 - 9 am for ????*The Role of Medicine in Planetary Health* feat. Jonathan Patz, MD, MPH ???? Part of the Osher Center for Integrative Health at University of Vermont's 2025 Laura Mann Integrative Health Lecture Series, this special event is free and open to the public in person at The University of Vermont Medical Center's Davis Auditorium or online via Zoom. ? Dr. Patz?is the John P. Holton Chair of Health and the Environment with appointments in the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies?and the Department of Population Health Sciences?at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He served as the Inaugural Director of UW’s Global Health Institute and continues to direct the Planetary Health Scholars Program.? ? For 15 years, Patz?served as a lead author for the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)—the organization that was awarded the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize. He also served as Health Co-Chair for the first?US National Climate Assessment?and in 2019, was elected into the U.S. National Academy of Medicine?for his pioneering research on climate change and human health. Dr. Patz is currently developing a 9-credit graduate?Certificate in Planetary Health?for health professional students at the University of Wisconsin. ? Jonathan Patz, M.D., MPH, is joining UVM as a Macmillan Scholar in Residence at the Gund Institute for Environment for two weeks in January 2025. Asking three questions to... Seraina Rüegger, PRC Scientific Director, about the Zurich Population Research Conference 2025 ?What makes the Zurich Population Research Conference a must-attend event? ??This is the first-ever conference of its kind in Zurich, bringing together researchers from diverse disciplines - medicine, social sciences, and more - to explore population studies. Such interdisciplinary collaboration is rare, making this event an exciting and unique opportunity. ?As Director of the PRC and a political scientist, what are you most excited about the conference? ??I’m especially excited about the panels on migration, vulnerable groups, and innovative methods. As someone researching migration, I can’t wait to see how experts from psychology and medicine approach these topics. ?Why is collaboration across disciplines important in population research? ??As a political scientist and director of the PRC, I see how interdisciplinary research can bridge the gap between theory and practice. Take migration research, for example, political scientists might focus on governance, psychologists on trauma and resilience, and medical researchers on health challenges. By combining these perspectives, we gain insights that wouldn’t be possible in isolation. Working together allows us to address the full range of population challenges, from individual well-being to global policy solutions. The first Zurich Population Research Conference will take place on January 20-21, 2025, at the university's main building. ?? Program details: https://lnkd.in/dtG7MCDd ?? Registration deadline: December 13, 2024 ?? Register here: www.ema.uzh.ch/RF33N We look forward to seeing you soon at the Zurich Population Research Conference 2025!

The event takes place in person at Stanford. Our theme is One Health: Highlighting interdisciplinary research that recognizes and promotes the interconnected health of humans, animals, and the environment. ? ? We encourage everyone wishing to report on original research or interventions related to global and planetary health to submit abstracts to be considered for presentation. While the theme is One Health, abstracts from all disciplines of global and planetary health research are welcome. Abstracts will be reviewed and selected for verbal presentations, short lightning talks, and posters. ? ? It was such an honor to work together with Marie Studer, an internationally renowned planetary health expert, on this article we just published in Applied Radiology. Planetary health recognizes the links between human health, all other living species, and biophysical processes across the planet. In the article, we address planetary health & its relevance to the medical field. We also describe how Radiology can take the following actions to benefit our patients, communities, and the planet: 1. Reduce energy consumption and unnecessary imaging 2. Minimize waste 3. Advocate for sustainable supply chains 4. Educate 5. Conduct research To learn more, please read below ?? https://lnkd.in/gYpPtjBV ....and consider joining the Planetary Health Alliance at https://lnkd.in/gvjWNU6g ! Scientists face elevated rates of anxiety and depression due in part to the profession’s competitive nature and demanding hours. However, the physical environment also plays an important role in improving wellbeing.? In our survey of 1,059 scientists in collaboration with The New York Academy of Sciences Academy of Scientists, 60% of respondents said their buildings can do more to support their mental and physical health. Life scientists tended to rate their buildings lower than other disciplines did. These findings present exciting new opportunities to design research buildings. We believe part of the answer lies in neuroscience and are currently working with NBBJ Fellow and developmental molecular biologist Dr. John J. Medina, Ph.D. to explore building design strategies that support personal agency, encourage movement, and provide access to nature to improve mental and physical health.? I could write a book about what Linda Griffith has done for me in my healthcare journey. You should apply if you want to do work that matters with people who deeply care about #gynecological (not a dirty word!) health. This is #fibroids; #adenomyosis; #endometriosis; #menorrhagia and more. There is such potential here. #MITCGR #WorkWithaGenius
