Meet our Teams??: Litreal My name is Laura Castro Ramirez, I moved to Miami during the summer of 2023 to pursue a Masters Degree at the University of Miami School of Communication, where I am currently enrolled in their Interactive Media MFA Program. I grew up in Bogotá, Colombia and attended Northeastern University in Boston where I obtained my bachelor’s degree in international relations with a government track from their College of Social Sciences & Humanities as well as a Paralegal Studies degree. I really enjoy living a holistic lifestyle, experimenting with new technology, and books. From a young age, books have been a constant presence in my life, beginning with the bedtime stories my mother read to me each night. This ritual fostered not only a deep love for literature but also an appreciation for the connections that stories create. While reading is often seen as a solitary activity, it has an unparalleled ability to bring people together through discussion and shared interpretation. Books open dialogues, spark intellectual engagement, and cultivate empathy by allowing readers to experience the world through different perspectives. As someone who values both connection and innovation, I see storytelling as a bridge—one that not only enriches individual lives but also fosters deeper community engagement, a principle that continues to shape my approach to design and technology. Building on this belief in the power of storytelling and connection, I founded Litreal, a VR platform designed to transform the way readers engage with books and each other. Just as literature fosters dialogue and empathy, virtual reality enhances these connections by creating a sense of presence—allowing users to feel as if they are sharing the same space, even when miles apart. With advancements in VR technology, we can bridge the gap between the solitary nature of reading and the communal experience of discussion, making book clubs more immersive and interactive.
