The Summer Tennis Camp is alive and well. Guaranteed everyone that follows me or that’s in the tennis industry, went to a summer tennis camp at some point. Even my wife did and that’s her only tennis experience. (This is more of a conversation with all of you that run camps now). To me the summer tennis camp is an absolute pivotal intro to tennis that can make or break a kids love for tennis. We get 1/max 2 chances to introduce a younger player to tennis. We better do it right, and make that experience memorable, inviting, and fun. To boil it down, the campers either come home from summer camp loving the sport and wanting more or they feel neutral/dislike tennis (which is a failure). So……. How can we get more kids in tennis camp ingited to love tennis and stay in the sport? What extras do you offer to make the camp experience memorable? What experiences do to you setup on top of tennis? What makes your camp special? These are questions that come to mind. I want to see what directors/owners/camp leaders do that is extraordinary in this niche. Here’s our top 5 extraordinary things we do that keep kids coming back year after year. 1. Safety is literally number 1 thing I talk about with our coaches. I say anticipate it before it happens. Keep the kids healthy/safe through the 5 days, and that’s part 1 of the success story. 2. Pool and water balloons: We added in another top activity that almost all kids ages 5-14 love, and that’s pool time. All full day kids get 1hr in the pool. 3. We stagger times/coaches are engaged. I’m working with 5 courts and 52-58 kids a week. We try to make it feel like 20 kids are there. 9 coaches on court. I’m fully engaged as a roaming director. 4. We look for the good. We give kids tickets for good behavior. Winners get prizes on the last day. 5. We help navigate social situations through team games. Play with someone you don’t know, make a friend beyond your group, coaches look for kids to push into new groups. We try to make the connections. If you add 1 or 2 things your camp does in the comments, great. If you don’t have a camp, but have memories add those. I’m hoping this starts a conversation, because the summer tennis camp is still alive and well.

Hey Oners, How are you ? How was your weekend ? We re still in Barcelona this week :) a few more days in the ???? European capital of sport ?? In most sports, we often discuss a player's abilities to hit the ball well in tennis, score with both hands in basketball, or use both feet effectively in football. An often overlooked aspect is the player's movement without the ball. Factors such as the intensity of their feet, center of gravity, attention to detail, split-step technique, type of steps used, flexibility, fighting spirit, endurance, and speed of movement are crucial in evaluating a great player. Regardless of the score of the match or the moment of the training, these qualities define also a player's greatness.

What if I told you that tennis could be your key to living longer? A recent study proves it: no other sport adds more years to your life than tennis! According to a 25-year study on 8,500 people, playing tennis regularly can add up to 10 more years to your life. Why tennis? It’s more than just the physical benefits. Of course, tennis works your entire body, building muscle strength and providing exceptional cardiovascular exercise. But what really sets it apart is its unique combination of mental engagement, social interaction, and stress relief. When you’re on the court, you’re fully focused. There’s no room for distraction, which is incredibly powerful for managing stress and boosting mental clarity. Beyond the physical, tennis connects us. It’s a social sport, bringing people together, fostering friendships, creating connections and making each encounter not just a workout, but also a chance to have fun with others who share the same passion. If you’re already playing tennis, keep going. If not, there’s no better time to start. Tennis isn’t just a game—it’s an investment in a longer, healthier, more connected and enjoyable life. #tennis #health #MentalHealth #sports

The humbling truth about starting tennis: Growth is awkward, uncomfortable—and worth every moment. I picked up tennis as a way to stay active, but it quickly became more than exercise. Every rally and every missed shot taught me the beauty of being a beginner. It’s humbling, but also energizing. The small improvements—better aim, quicker reflexes—are proof that growth happens step by step with persistence. What I didn’t expect was how much joy it brings to share this journey with others. Connecting with people who love learning as much as I do has been the best part. The real reason why trying something new, like tennis, makes you better at everything else? It forces you to embrace discomfort. And that’s where growth truly happens. Pictured: My partner stretching after a good workout. #ActiveLifestyle #GrowthMindset #BeginnerSpirit

Are We Stuck in the Past? Path dependency in tennis is holding us back. From rigid technical training to outdated junior development pathways, we’re often locked into traditions that no longer serve today’s players or coaches. In my latest article for Racket Business, I explore how these entrenched habits shape the way we coach, develop players, and even structure our sport. More importantly, I discuss how we can break free from these patterns to create a more adaptable, forward-thinking approach to tennis. If you’ve ever questioned why things are done a certain way in tennis—or wondered how we can innovate and evolve—this one’s for you. ?? Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eu7gahQe Let me know your thoughts—how do you see path dependency affecting tennis today?

TENNIS TECHNIQUE From big to small movement or the opposite? The main difference between a tennis player and a windsurfer? It’s all about the technique learning. The learning approach in a windsurfer, a gymnastic and a violinist is from big to small movements. In other sports, in my opinion, like tennis the approach has to be from small to big. If you guess about a preparation or a long transition, if you are not very able in terms of “speed differentiation” and “timing”you cannot aim a good balance at cause of the not controlled levers. This happens also on professional players. When the opponent accelerate on the “weak” shot, the lack of timing and control come out. How improving? Reducing the full action and working on the “break point” the point in terms of speed and movement amplitude, so it is possible to improve the control. Gray Cook speaks about “reverse pattern” in this case. Teaching to thousands of all ages players in my career I can claim that they learned faster from short movements to larger, in terms of preparation, steps and transitions. These concepts are based on the Theory of Bernstein about “degrees of freedom” There is the first stage called “Degrees of freedom problem” when the athlete reacts on freezing these degrees of freedom, because shorter is the movement and easier is the control The second Stage is the Release Degrees of Freedom to discover gravity, inertia and maximum accelerations The stage n.3 is about to exploit passive dynamics in automatic movements Even in the serve is the same. In situations where there is a lack of good timing, a shorter movement of the arm can be controlled much better then a larger. Indeed most of the top players with high percentage under pressure have a shorter movement. In terms of injuries control this approach can distribute the pushes in the different joints. From the other side a big preparation if is not coordinated with a good legs pushes timing can compensate a balance in open stance where joints like hips are overloaded. ……………..continues in the podcast … #carbonemethod #theawarenessgame #carbonetennis #tennisscience #tennisbiomechanics
