After countless attempts to get inside an Airbus cockpit, I finally had the chance to spend 10 amazing minutes with a kind pilot who shared his knowledge and passion with me. The cockpit was one of the most complex things I'd ever seen. ???? This experience taught me a valuable life lesson: if you want something badly enough, keep trying until you get it. This principle applies to job hunting as well. No matter how many times I face rejection, my passion and perseverance will eventually open doors. Sunday - Prep Day! ?? First Day of Work [Eve] Edition When's the last time you started a new job/career? If you're a #militaryveteran like I am, it's likely been a long time. Because, I'm not talking about every time we'd receive a new set of orders moving us to a new station, ship, base, squadron, etc. Sure, those are different and gave us vast arrays of experiences - but, we were still in the service. No, I'm about to step into a "whole new world" here... ? Different uniform... ? New culture and vocabulary... ? There may even be a designated lunch break! As I push past those 'first day of school' vibes making sure I have a notebook with plenty of 'loose leaf' and extra No. 2 pencils, I'm ensuring I'm #prepared in more practical ways: ? Appropriate clothing selected (don't be in the wrong uniform!) ? Car is fuelled, cleaned and inspected (arrive ?? alive!) ? Review of company information/knowledge ?? ? Okay, fine - a notebook, a pen, and a spare (because, note taking) ? Oh, and reading glasses! (with spare ??) ? An open mind, a curious spirit... ? And my two friends: Adaptability and Flexibility ?? (because change is the only true constant!) No matter what happens, I'm sure it will all be good. Confidence is ever-present from accumulated prior experience. And, if I have any questions... no worries because: I've already been set up with fantastic onboarding guidance in David Stelling and my Buddy/Sponsor Marc Boekhoud! Knowledge Dispels Fear - in and out of uniform In my previous career as a Military parachuting instructor, we worked to the motto: Knowledge Dispels Fear. Fear is natural, but with the right training, preparation, and mindset, it can be overcome. I’ve seen firsthand how confidence grows when skill replaces doubt and how resilience is built through experience. As I’ve transitioned into a new career, I carry that same mindset. Every challenge is an opportunity to learn, adapt, and grow. Just like in parachuting, success comes from preparation, trust in abilities, and the resilience to keep moving forward.
