This morning, George Mason's Gray Center published a paper I had the privilege of co-authoring with DJ Gribbin on the nationalization of transportation infrastructure. Local challenges require local solutions. Federalism, the force that has fostered our nation's durability and strengthened our communities is threatened by the national government's impulsive tendency to grasp responsibilities of a traditionally local nature. Among many other areas, the nationalization of America's infrastructure illustrates this dangerous trajectory and illuminates its hidden costs. Generating diminished quality, complex regulations, misaligned incentives, and inflation, centralizing the decision-making for America's infrastructure has not produced the anticipated results. America's infrastructure challenges are local and the best solutions will be achieved through local means.

Across the U.S. there are hundreds of bridges in poor condition, and while the bipartisan infrastructure law represents a once-in-a-generation investment into our nation’s infrastructure, it alone can’t cover what’s needed to address our aging infrastructure. We wholeheartedly agree with Rep. Nadler on this one -- fully fund the Metropolitan Transportation Authority! "Every New Yorker knows the MTA is the lifeline of New York City and the region surrounding it... When Gov. Hochul and the state Legislature begin their session in January, they can show New Yorkers they’re ready to govern in the second Donald Trump era by immediately funding the MTA’s 2025-2029 Capital Plan. That Plan is a blueprint for ensuring our transit infrastructure can meet current and future demands, while also safeguarding our city against climate-related threats. Bottomline: It’s the government’s responsibility to keep our streets safe for all road users. National Government Agencies should reconcile its priorities in order to step-up implementation of active transport infrastructure and introduce inclusive road designs.

We want investments in Washington's transportation infrastructure to go to the areas of highest need, ensure critical first responder access, improve safety and to do so with the maximum ROI, transparency and accountability. As subject-matter experts with third-party studies to back us up, we proposed this fall that a competitive, local road grant program would be the most effective way to address the significant challenges faced by one third of Washington's roads. That recommendation was taken and drafted by Representative Sam Low into bi-partisan House Bill 1098 along with Representatives Andrew Barkis, Dave Paul, Greg Nance, and Joe Timmons, which has a public hearing tonight in House Transportation at 4pm. ? Election delays decision on Lower Thames Crossing. Should these types decisions be outside politics? Large infrastructure projects such as airports and power stations, or vital transport links are essential for the growth or the country, yet take years to plan, develop and implement. ?? Pennsylvania is Investing in Better Roads and Bridges! ?? Governor Josh Shapiro recently highlighted Pennsylvania’s commitment to improving infrastructure, announcing that over 200 poor bridges were replaced or repaired last year — the most in the nation! ??? Key initiatives include: ?? Reallocating state police funding for infrastructure ?? Providing multimodal funds for local projects ?? Securing federal funds for more bridge replacements While progress has been made, challenges remain with 110 bridges still in poor condition.
