Proud to be an Alumni of Consumer, Apparel, & Retail Studies Department at UNCG! Congratulations Class of 2024. It's hard to believe that I graduated over 33yrs ago from the "G." I was literally the first Auto-cad Computer class. We literally with the teacher had to figure it out together. That experience taught me that it's not what you know, that always gets you to the next level but that you have the aptitude, inquisitiveness and that you are willing to find a way in the dark. The professor was transparent and admitted that she had not been trained on the program. She thought it was a great display of team effort to create our own mode of operation and push each other into the 21st Century of Tech. Around that same time "Prodigy" was the brain child of Sears and Roebuck company that attempted to move into the age of the internet but they were too early and only had a hint of what was to come. Had they forged that path a little longer they may have become the Amazon of today. Sears formerly was the King of Retail Communication sending out the infamous Christmas Sears & Roebuck catalog every year. They almost remained the King of the Hill. Congratulations #MachineGames, #Bethesda, and #Xbox! I'm very happy to see Indiana Jones and the Great Circle come out. It has been a long journey for Indy. Machine Games is getting better and better with each release. And they look to be the perfect developer for Indy. I hope this is the first of several Indiana Jones adventures from Machine Games. Remember, the MachineGames folks who came from StarBreeze worked on the fantastic Chronicles of Riddick and The Darkness games back in the day. There is a fantastic lineage of experience and play from The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay (2004), The Darkness (2007), and The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena (2009) to Wolfenstein: The New Order (2014), The Old Blood (2015), The New Colossus (2017), and Young Blood (2019) to the just released Indiana Jones and the Great Circle (2024). There is both individual and studio learning across two decades of First Person Adventures that gets us to from Chronicles of Riddick to The Darkness to Wolfenstein to Indiana Jones. This is game history in motion. Back in 2009 I almost went to LucasArts for the last Indiana Jones that LucasArts almost made. This was before Disney bought the six Lucas companies in 2012 for $4 billion. When that Indy was canceled in 2009, I instead went to id Software. At id Software I saw the care and attention that Machine Games had for Wolfenstein, while we worked on Rage & Doom. I also released Wolfenstein on Mobile and back onto consoles. Meanwhile MachineGames labored on Wolfenstein for over a decade putting out fantastic new Wolfenstein games to complement the classic. So yeah, if I can't make Indy, I'm happy that MachineGames is. I've seen and played MachineGames' work, directly and indirectly, for a long time. MachineGames is a fantastic steward for Indiana Jones in First Person Adventures. I hope that Indy and MachineGames have a rich and entangled future for a decade to come. I want to play the games they'll make. I have loved Indiana Jones since I was a kid. So I'm happy to inhabit Indy through a First Person window via the development wizardry, expertise, love, care, and craft from MachineGames. ps. As a former Looking Glass and id Software game designer I am so happy that Indiana Jones is a first person adventure. pps. Smith’s legacy stretches back to 1892, when its predecessor, Biddle Memorial Institute, played in the first Black college football game, defeating Livingstone College 5-0.
