On the week of the 79th commemoration of the U.S. atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan, the National Security Archive today publishes a fascinating new collection of papers from the office files of Leslie Groves, the director of the Manhattan Project, the U.S. effort during World War II to develop and produce the world’s first nuclear weapons. Among the newly available records are candid memos and other correspondence from inside the Manhattan Project on the role of nuclear technologies in the post-war environment and the importance of being the preeminent atomic power. In one revealing document from 1943, Arthur Compton, director of the Manhattan Project’s “Metallurgical Laboratory” at the University of Chicago, considered the post-World War II role of heavy water nuclear reactors. Assuming that production of plutonium-239 would be relevant to the “balance of military power” after the war, Compton wrote that “the post-war situation will still be greatly confused and it will remain of prime importance to maintain the country in a supreme military position.” Compton’s letter and the other records published today were found in a long-overlooked collection of office files of the Manhattan Project. The two cartons of “Leslie Groves Papers Concerning the Manhattan Project, 1942–1946” were found in Record Group 77, pertaining to the Army Corps of Engineers. When it reviewed the collection, the Department of Energy classified at least half of it, but what is available sheds interesting new light on the first two years of the Manhattan Project, including Groves’ day-to-day decisions and his demanding management style. The U.S. National Archives made the Groves collection available in response to an indexing-on-demand request by the National Security Archive. The collection also includes several letters from J. Robert Oppenheimer, the recently appointed director of the Manhattan Project’s new weapons laboratory, about his early efforts to create a staff of experimental and theoretical physicists, including a “personnel list” that he sent to Groves. Other memoranda and letters from the file concern the construction and development of Hanford Engineer Works, the secret site in a remote part of Washington state that produced the plutonium used in the first atomic test and in the bombing of Nagasaki, and records on wartime and postwar planning for the development of heavy water nuclear reactors. https://lnkd.in/dnkd_r-n

?????????????????????????????? ???????? ?????????????????????????????? ???????????? ????????-???????? - ?????? ???????????? ????????????????: The electromagnetic bomb market refers to the demand and supply of electromagnetic bombs, also known as electromagnetic pulse bombs or EMP bombs. These bombs are designed to emit a high-intensity electromagnetic pulse that can disrupt and damage electronic equipment and systems. The market for electromagnetic bombs is driven by concerns about the impact of an electromagnetic pulse event, which could occur due to a nuclear explosion or other catastrophic event. The market is relatively small, with only a few companies that manufacture electromagnetic bombs and limited demand from governments and other organizations. ???? ???????? ?????? ???????????? ?????????? ?????????????????????????????????????? ???????? ???????????? ?????????????? ?????? ???????????? ??????:https://lnkd.in/e-rqAKY5 *???? ????????:??Nuclear E Bomb,Non-nuclear E Bomb ??? *???? ??????????????????????:????Air Force,Army,?Navy *???? ????????????: North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, South America, Middle East & Africa *???? ?????? ??????????????: Boeing, Denel Dynamics , KONGSBERG, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, Orbital ATK, Textron, IAI - Israel Aerospace Industries, L3 Technologies, General Dynamics #electromagnetic #automation #technology #electrical #engineering #electromagneticfield #electronic #arduino #microcontroller #electronicengineering #solarpanel #arduinoproject #earth #electricalwiring #electricalengineering #engineer #electricalvehicle #electricvehicle #mechanicalengineering #electricianlife #inverter #electricmotor #insight #mechanic #mechanical #solartechnology #solarvehicle #electricaltransformer #tech #electronics

Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming a group of nuclear engineering students from Kungliga Tekniska h?gskolan. During their visit, the students explored several facilities at Studsvik Tech Park, including Studsvik, Cyclife Sweden AB, and AB Svafo. The students were introduced to the various companies and their operations, gaining valuable insights into the cutting-edge technologies and services offered within the industry. They received presentations on the innovative solutions and projects being developed at each company, and at Studsvik, they also participated in on-site guided tours of our Hot Cell Laboratory (HCL). In addition to the technical insights at HCL , the students had the opportunity to meet with our HR department. These discussions focused on the current needs within the industry and future employment opportunities. Our HR team provided valuable information on the skills and qualifications required in the nuclear sector, as well as potential career paths for aspiring engineers. The visit was a great opportunity for the students to connect with industry professionals, gain first-hand insight into the work being done on site, and explore potential career opportunities within the field.
