A great show on a great farm (Grosvenor Farms Ltd) What struck me today was just how much development there is in dairy farm management and practices with the aim of reduce greenhouse gas emissions coming from milk production. What is encouraging is that in the large part, where practices have been developed to reduce greenhouse gases there is more efficiency and so more profitability generated. However, of all the developments and tech on show there was lots of talk around the new feed additive Bovaer which has recently been granted marketing authority for the Uk. Bovaer is a feed additive that can be fed to dairy cows (ruminants) where the trials show a reduction in methane on average of 30% which will lead to a dairy farm carbon footprint print reduction of 10 - 15 %! It will be interesting to see how well this product is taken up in the industry and who ends up bearing the cost? Virgin Money are pleased to have sponsored a great event showcasing the latest developments in milk production.
All set up at Royal Association of British Dairy Farmers (RABDF) Down To Earth at GROSVENOR FARMS LIMITED. Come and say hello Oliver Maxey Brian Richardson Dale Lawrenson Justin Hayward . We’ve got the kettle on.

Canadian companies expect small redfish from recently-opened fishery will be a hard-sell Canadian companies already fishing and processing redfish from two commercial zones on the country’s east coast say the smaller redfish from the recently reopened?fishery?in the Gulf of?St. Lawrence won’t be an easy sell. The problem is that while the redfish in Unit 1 has grown in volume – the biomass is estimated at around four million tons – the fish are small, averaging 24cm or less, below the size the consumer market values.
