A large chemical fire broke out Monday at a Pennsylvania manufacturer of metal aerospace fasteners and precision components. A shelter-in-place order closed schools and suspended rail service. Icy weather made fire fighting efforts difficult. No injuries were reported. Some of the chemicals that could have been involved at such a facility are: lubricants and cutting fluids, adhesives and sealants, paints and coatings, or solvents and degreasers, all of which have flammable properties. Chromate-based inhibitors used in metal processes are corrosive, so they can accelerate combustion when in contact with flammable materials. https://hubs.li/Q037kF5F0 #ChemicalFire #ChemicalSafety #ChemicalPlantFire #MetalFabrication #AerospaceIndustry #ManufacturingSafety #Corrosives #FlammableChemicals #ChemicalStorageBuildings #ChemicalStorage #IndustrialSafety #EHS #Acetone #Chromates #PrefabricatedPortableBuildings
