"'This isn’t the end in Florida. It’s just the beginning since we’ve now seen how strongly the push for legalization resonates in the state,' said Josh Glasstetter, a spokesman for the U.S. Cannabis Council, which favors legalization."

TUNE IN ??: In this episode of the #BakerBriefing, we talk about federal cannabis reform. Over half of all Americans live in a state where cannabis is legalized. And yet, the federal government has not reclassified marijuana since 1970. In this episode, our experts discuss the evolving regulatory frameworks, political dynamics shaping the future of marijuana policy, and changes that might be afoot in 2024. https://lnkd.in/esdfb4nw

It hit me this morning after reading this article and the CUD article by MM, that Plato's allegory of the cave is a fitting lens for the cannabis reform debate. It shows how outdated perceptions of cannabis policy are in the dark, shaped by misinformation and stigma. The myth that the international treaties, the shadows on the cave walls, block U.S. reform is fading, especially in light of global shifts like Germany's recent legalization. This should be encouraging us to rethink our stance. The proposal to move cannabis to Schedule III might seem like progress, but it barely nudges us toward the cave's exit. It fails to tackle the core issues: it restricts research, ignores social justice, and complicates regulation. Actual progress means stepping fully into the light by descheduling cannabis, aligning policy with scientific evidence, and equity. Isn't it time for a more honest dialogue on cannabis, aiming for policies that fully recognize its benefits and rectify past injustice? I'm not being difficult; this is what being pragmatic sounds like. #WhenPeopleAreTheFocusWeAllWin #RemoveCannabisFromTheCSA #BeyondTheCave #DescheduleCannabis #EndCannabisProhibition

Curio's own Wendy Bronfein comments on the new re-scheduling of cannabis bill: "While this move to Schedule III could provide much-needed relief from the crushing tax burden of 280e, we must seek a balance between exercising federal oversight and enforcement responsibilities while preserving each state’s ability to determine the best approach to cannabis within its borders. I firmly believe the industry should continue advocating for the descheduling of cannabis; for as long as cannabis is listed as a scheduled substance, there will always be an inherent conflict between federal and state law. The way to eliminate stigma and legitimize the legal cannabis industry is to fully remove cannabis from the Controlled Substances Act. While the pending DEA announcement is historic, we must continue advocating for policies that create more certainty for the cannabis industry and consumers so they can trust the products they’re consuming are safe." Cannabis decriminalization (Pillar 1) comes into force today! Last week, Manuela Schwesig (SPD), standing in for Frank-Walter Steinmeier (SPD), reviewed and signed the Cannabis Act into law. We commend the government for taking a meaningful step to decriminalize cannabis, effective today 1 April 2024! This is a revolutionary step in drug policy that will help both patients and recreational users. It is long overdue that those who look to cannabis for support are no longer stigmatized and criminalized. And it is long overdue to combat the flourishing black market in Germany and to focus on the protection of young people and health.? Our special thanks go to the many people who helped to draft and implement this law. Our VP External Affairs Dirk Heitepriem and the entire Aurora team have worked intensively with various stakeholders from politics, science, and industry over the past few months to make this law possible. Without this collaboration, such a process would have been unthinkable. We are proud of what we have achieved so far and are equally excited about Pillar 2, which is now the next step: The establishment of model projects to scientifically research the impact of cannabis decriminalization on society! #OpeningTheWorldToCannabis #Cannabis #MedicinalCannabis

2 周So it's time to make sure the USCC has a plan. You know Casey is planning on running and she is the biggest threat (Ron is termed out). Both Gaetz and Donalds are pro-legalization (Dems don't have a shot here). We can fundamentally change the attitude at the top with some targeted advocacy and planning.
