?? Very dry conditions across the Great Lakes region in October led to enhanced water level declines on the lakes. ?? Of note, the monthly mean water level for Lakes Michigan-Huron dropped six inches from September to October and its October level was two inches below its long-term average October level. This is the first time since 2014 that the lake level has been below average. However, even though the October monthly mean level is below average, it’s still more than two feet above its record low October level. ?? ??All of the Great Lakes are in the midst of their seasonal rise. In fact, the monthly mean levels of Lakes St. Clair, Erie and Ontario climbed five to six inches from March to April. ??In addition, each of the Great Lakes experienced above average precipitation in April, as provisional estimates indicate Lakes Michigan-Huron, Erie and Ontario received precipitation that was around 40% above average. ??Are all of the lakes predicted to continuing rising in May? Good graphic for the immediate incident mitigation from USACE. Their EOCs and Incident Response leads are making progress on this massive problem set. As I understand it, the State of Maryland will be the driver for renewal of the bridge and future operations. Getting the shipping channel open to restore trade/commerce traffic is the first step.

At the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) our workforce has reached historic levels, not just in capabilities and expertise, but in size. In recent months, its talented team has reached nearly 3,000 strong and is still growing. At the very core are men and women who have served in our Armed Forces. Today, 15 percent of ERDC’s workforce consists of those who once wore the uniform, stood a post, served overseas or deployed to foreign lands when their country called. They served with honor and distinction and have continued their service today at ERDC, where we strive to discover, develop and deliver the engineering solutions our Warfighters need. Brilliant team building and physical training at scale! 4th Infantry Divison out of Fort Carson, Colorado commemorated D-Day by hosting a PT session for all 12,000 troops! Over multiple obstacles of tank ditches, walls, mud, wire crawls, and more, units competed to finish first carrying water cans, stretchers, and other heavy items! This is an incredibly creative way to build teams, foster competition, improve fitness and resiliency, and increase moral. Most of all, this event will be talked about the rest of their lives. This kind of team building isn't limited to the military. With a little creativity, it can be applied to any organization -- with a great risk mitigation plan :) I challenge all of us to do this at our scale. I know I'm thinking of ways to pull it off!
