The Power of Community Conferences - Unveiling Authentic Narratives Community Conference, as envisioned, has emerged as a forum where the authentic voices of communities come to life. The last two Community Conferences, facilitated under the aegis of the Promise of Commons Initiative, have been dynamic and participatory events that aimed to strengthen, empower, and unify communities across the country and elsewhere by fostering open dialogue, shared learning, and promoting collaborative action. These community conferences have enabled transformative power for participating communities by providing a forum, emphasizing their role in unifying diverse narratives, promoting storytelling, and fostering meaningful dialogue. Traditional methods of storytelling by an external entity, be it a outsider or a personnel working with villages, often result in fragmented narratives. More often than not, they draw parallels with experiences from elsewhere and may result in generalizations that may not authentically represent the unique context and intricacies of a community. The narratives are often guided by research questions and theoretical frameworks, which may inadvertently shape the narratives to align with predetermined perspectives. While analytical rigor is crucial, it should not overshadow the lived experiences of community members. Community conferences prioritize a participatory and inclusive approach, empowering community members to share their stories without the constraints of predefined frameworks. Pleased to have presented a paper entitled "Disrupting Inequity Through Digital Storytelling: Possibilities and Challenges" at the Computers and Writing Conference 2024. This project explores the complex terrain of using digital storytelling to disrupt systemic inequity and pursue narrative justice for marginalized communities. It asks: How can minoritized populations leverage digital counter-storytelling for social change when sociotechnical systems remain structured against them? What risks and unintended harms emerge from platform-based activism and whose responsibility is it to address those ethical complexities? Can dominant corporate platforms, with capitalist imperatives, ever be sites for liberation, or should social justice efforts develop alternative digital ecosystems centered on minoritized users’ needs? It was my humble attempt to address all those issues and I'm eager to continue this conversation. #CWcon24 Here's a link to the Conference-

A map of the international community ecosystem A place where you can find all the actors involved in providing a service for, creating content, or representing the international community in Denmark. How does that sound? The experience of being part of "Welcome September" events in various cities around the country has given me the understanding that a whole industry has developed around internationals, a very complex world with multiple layers with various actors, of whom some, to be honest, I never heard before. That made me think. How many opportunities are we missing because we don't know of a certain service, content, or representation aimed at internationals? Wouldn't it be sweet to have everything in one place? A perfect task for AMIS - A More Inclusive Society to take on the task of creating a map of the international community ecosystem (kinda like the one made by Heyfunding for the entrepreneurial system in Denmark), with support from Last Week in Denmark and Aalborg Institute for Development. Of course, such a task is grand, and without the community contribution, it will take months to be completed. Therefore, I ask for your support to gather the knowledge needed. Do you know of, or are you an actor involved in the community? Social Impact in the Regions couldn't happen without our conference partners. We refer to our first conference year, the year we worked out this was going to be a go-er as year 0. Following Year 0 I declared a 10-year minimum delivery of this event. Talitha Devadass (Taz) and Emilee Rigby were the first to throw their hands up and say COUNT US IN. Taz and Em are our Youth Stream conference partners. In 2023 they delivered a memorable program for the young people from Kempsey and Macksville High Schools - in 2024 we have nudged out the geography and the scope and these fabulous conference partners are now designing something utterly magnificent with young people across Australia. In future years this will grow. Our vision is to ensure we have a conference that is inclusive of and welcoming to young people from across Australia, that young people in the local community have the opportunity to influence the program and that each segment of the event is seen through a youth lens. There is a brand new members only section with various benefits. There is a main home feed which contains content/posts from various "communities". Honestly, it feels/looks like an internal Facebook exclusive for our society (I don't mean this in a negative way). You can update your profile, connect with others, and keep up to date with ISoP events/communications.
