Great News for Sharon's Bay Park in New Lenox Governor Pritzker announced the 2025 OSLAD Grant award recipients in December, totaling $55.2 million. The New Lenox Community Park District (NLCPD) received $600,000 to renovate Sharon’s Bay Park. NLCPD is proud to be one of only two park districts in Will County to receive this substantial grant. The redevelopment plan includes creating three modern play zones tailored to various age groups, ensuring fun and safe recreational opportunities for children, teens, and families. The renovation also features a high school regulation basketball court, an upgraded volleyball court, and the addition of the innovative “Tween Central Social Hub,” designed with fitness equipment and social spaces for local tweens. The renovation also incorporates shoreline enhancements, beautifying the park and serving as a resource for environmental education. These improvements will create a welcoming space for ADA-accessible fishing and nature appreciation, fostering a deeper connection to the environment for park visitors. #expertsatplay, #designexcellence, #parks, #recreation, #recreationlandscape, #newlenox, #illinoisparks, #greenspace, #outdoors

Parks are where we walk and jog, children enjoy playgrounds, and people meet for social gatherings. They are also a starting point for building community power and strengthening democracy. ? The Trust for Public Land developed a framework for enabling local communities to decide how to renovate their green spaces and found that organizing communities to redesign their parks galvanized residents to connect on other issues of shared concern. What started as a parks project became an exercise in community power building and democratic enrichment: “Communities build relationships with their environment and with each other, coalesce around a place-based identity grounded in their shared passion, and ultimately consolidate and exercise community power to transform residents’ lives for the better.” ??In SSIR’s new summer issue, Geneva Vest, Cary Simmons, and Howard Frumkin share more about the framework and ways to nurture civic engagement and a thriving democracy through our parks and green spaces ? https://lnkd.in/e8bgMN3X #socialinfrastructure #parks #democracy

How can a generation that never experienced the "good old days" recreate them? ?? ??♀? Did you know Gwinnett County Public Parks has small and large pavilion rental options? ?? If you're a Gwinnett resident, the small seats 15-50+ people depending on the park for $35 an hour, or $ 45 hourly for Non-Gwinnett residents. ???????? The large pavilion's seating arrangement varies between 75-160 capacity, with a rental rate of $60/hour for Gwinnett residents and $90/rate for non-Gwinnett residents. ?????? ???? Interested? Create designated lists for yourself and helping hands regarding expected guests, top location preferences, and potential entertainment to avoid juggling tasks. Then, split the bill ?? (If you can)! The goal is to spread affordable, wholesome fun. ?? If their pricing is up-to-date, a 4-hour small pavilion rental is approximately $140. What's the price if split between 4 people? $35 #gwinnettevents #gwinnettcounty #community #communityevents #georgia

As a commercial property and small business owner, a Milwaukee resident and supporter of our local economy, I’d like to keep fanning the flames in support of Milwaukee’s burgeoning trail network. Momentum is building and hard work is underway expanding our city’s trail system. For decades we have collectively built and used the fantastic Oak Leaf Trail - with great benefit to our combined physical and mental health, and to our economy. Except that trail doesn’t reach all of us. Trails inspire development, connect community, provide alternative transportation options, expand neighborhoods, grow local economies and spark entrepreneurship. A trail renaissance is happening in Milwaukee and it’s important for you to know about it. Local community development organizations in partnership with city, county, state and federal input, are authoring plans to reclaim lost spaces for public betterment. At present there are miles of new trail being discussed linking our Milwaukee neighborhoods together. The Beerline Trail, The 30th Street Corridor, The Dragonfly Bridge and many others are moving from concept to reality. National benchmarking and research confirm the lasting benefits of public trails for all of us. Big wins like combatting climate change to personal benefits like meeting your neighbor for a fitness walk organically present themselves on the trail. Here is my call to action: Learn - a great jumping off point is the Route of the Badger website: https://lnkd.in/gNuQEx4v . Engage - let our elected officials know that we value connection. From a cost benefit analysis trails are a no brainer. And in the most incredible consideration, trails are a magnificently purple issue, void of politics. But in need of champions - so be a champion. Stay connected. Stay informed. Seek and locate the truth and accept that there are shades of truth that set the table for debate and discussion; for growth and understanding. See you on the trail!

The research is clear: mixed-income housing is key to upLifting Orlando. ?? 70% of young adult Americans said that it was harder for them to afford a home than it was for their parents’ generation. In October 2021, about half of Americans (49%) said this was a major problem where they live—and this is up 10 percentage points from early 2018. Affording a home is now an American challenge; we need one another to learn how to handle this challenge best. For over a decade, Lift Orlando has been working with residents to create mixed-income housing opportunities, bringing beautiful homes to places like Pendana at West Lakes and Pendana Senior Residences. Both were created thanks to our phenomenal partner Columbia Residential. You can upLift your neighbor with Lift Orlando, too. Give to support the Love is Local campaign at loveislocalorlando.com ********************************** Read more about the research here ?? https://lnkd.in/e4gH_yR5

The passing of Issue 47 is a big win for Central Ohio and keeps us on the path to proactively tackle the expected growth in Central Ohio over the next decade or more. Continuing to invest infrastructure is a smart investment.
As the regional planning commission for Central Ohio, MORPC is committed to expanding sidewalks, bikeways, and trails to foster more walkable, connected communities. Thank you to everyone who supports our mission of creating opportunities for all residents.
