Switching from single-use to reusable options for dine-in, take-out, and food delivery could lead to the creation of roughly 193,000 good, green jobs across the U.S. These roles would span various areas, including collection, reverse logistics, washing/sanitizing, and refilling/restocking. Reuse systems: ?? Are rooted in the local community ??? Build local infrastructure ?? Circulate money and resources within the same areas they’re generated What’s more, these systems produce far less waste and pollution than our current “throw-away” economy. While issues caused by climate change are daunting, knowing that the New Reuse Economy starts right here in our own neighborhoods offers a sense of hope. ????Learn more at our https://lnkd.in/esfNFHQ ?#climateaction?#greenjobs?#newreuseeconomy??#climatesolutions?#weheartreuse?#betterwaythanthrowaway?#indisposable #reusables

Self Employed, former senior manager, multicultural experience, mentor, coach, Identity and Access life-cycle strategy and management, change and transformation management, audit, risk and control, Gardening and farming.
Let me share the different phases of the opportunity to improve environmental protection and reduce our footprint through some personal examples. 1, The first one is the no-cost, no investment phase, where you actually change your practice and behavior. Usually you can achieve a 15 – 20 % result. A few examples: ·????????Switch off the lights and unused equipment, optimize the thermometer for heating and cooling, take a shorter shower,? ·????????Use all the resources, do the shopping smartly and sparingly. ·????????Reduce waste, start to recycle, start composting, plogging,? ·????????Less driving, more walking or start biking, optimize your holiday plan, like going for a local hiking versus flying abroad, 2, The second is, when you will need some small investment to reduce your footprint further and achieve a further 10 – 15 % result. A few examples are: ·????????Start to use reusable shopping bag, implement a tap aerator, replace the traditional bulbs with LEDs, implement motion sensors for lighting,? ·????????Start a small garden and grow some vegetables and fruit. ·????????Implement a water filter for drinking,? ·????????Collect rainwater for your plants, plant trees. ·????????Purchase local, healthy, chemical and packaged free products. They are sometimes more expensive than the mass-produced, ultra-processed, unhealthy items. 3, The next phase is where you first need some medium or larger scale investment to be able to further optimize your footprint and maximize protect the environment. A few examples: ·????????Properly insulate your home, replace windows. We could reduce our heating/cooling energy consumption by 50 %.? ·????????Replace your old, ineffective heating/cooling systems. Start to use renewable energy versus fossil (like solar, wind, biomass). We are using more renewable and reducing gas consumption by a further >40 %.? ·????????When you replace your old equipment, select the ones which are more efficient but still high quality and can be used for a long.? ·????????Start to produce your own food, as much as possible chemical-free, natural products.? ·????????Plant plenty of trees. If you do not have your own land, join an organization or donate.? ·????????You can use rainwater for irrigation or implement a ‘gray’ water system in your home. The list of opportunities is practically endless. The above are just examples. I encourage everyone to start, continue, improve, because all small steps matters. #environmentalprotection #goinggreen

Have you seen the house in Australia that generates zero-waste? This 87-square-meter, three-story dwelling not only houses two bedrooms and a bathroom but also features a small restaurant, all operating within a completely closed-loop system. Here are some of the methods employed to achieve this: 1. Construction with exclusively organic materials. 2. Sole reliance on renewable energy sources. 3. Utilisation of an organic biodigester that converts waste into either gas or fertilizer. 4. Implementation of a soil roof providing fertile ground for plants, fish, and chickens. 5. Integration of an aquaponics system using fish waste to nourish plants. 6. Smart rainwater harvesting practices. 7. A living mushroom wall sustained by the steam from showers. 8. Use of entirely natural and recyclable materials. 9. On-site food production, including beehives. While this is an extreme example it shows that innovation and dedication can lead to some incredible results. This could be the blueprint for future buildings, offering a circular system that reduces greenhouse gas emissions and minimises food waste. Do you think any of these strategies could be used effectively in commercial buildings? If you are interested in the prospect of minimising waste production and embracing a closed loop system in your building developments, get in contact with one of the Alphacello team now! #zerowaste #sustainability #innovation

A city-dweller or a small-towner: Why composting should matter to you! Some things don't offer instant gratification. But the delayed gratification is worth every thing. This is the characteristic of changes in nature. They are so slow that it can escape attention.?Whether we do the wrong thing or the right thing effects are minuscule but cumulative. You've likely seen waste dumped on street corners. About 80% of the waste we generate in cities can actually be composted, turning it into something useful. However, our busy lives often make us forget about the consequences once the waste is out of sight. Yet, every bit of organic waste in landfills causes irreversible damage to the environment. We've heard a lot about the problems our actions cause, but let's take a moment to imagine how our lives would improve, if we were to make something like composting a part of our daily lives. Reduce climate impact We often discuss how temperatures are rising, even in winter. By incorporating simple acts like composting into your daily life, you can help prevent this situation from worsening. Composting lessens your carbon footprint, contributing less to global warming. It prevents the release of methane and other powerful greenhouse gases generated in landfills during the anaerobic decomposition of organic waste. Our neighbourhood would be clean and hygienic We've all witnessed wet waste dumped at street corners and looked away. By composting, you prevent wet waste from being thrown randomly, reducing landfill waste and minimizing the need for more landfill sites. It transforms dump sites into potentially useful spaces. The water we use would be safer A study explored how leachate, a liquid that forms in landfills as a result of waste breaking down, can impact human and bacterial cells. They tested it on different cells to see if it's harmful. Surprisingly, the leachate seemed to help bacteria grow, but it harmed human cells, especially the ones beneficial for skin health. The study suggests that we need to keep a check on leachate because it could be bad for people and the environment. Composting prevents leachate from reaching groundwater, keeping the water you use and drink cleaner. Composting may not offer instant gratification, but by being aware of our impact and working towards sustainable practices, we can reap the benefits in due course. #sustainability #climatechange #composting

At?Southend?we are working to become a more sustainable production company. As parents, it’s infuriating to watch your kids grab a cold water bottle from the fridge, take one sip, and then leave it untouched. This scenario not only wastes money but also creates unnecessary trash. This is a common issue on set as well: we grab water bottles, drink half, lose them, or even finish drinking, but by the end of the day, we generate a lot of waste. To tackle this problem,?we are taking action. We are no longer providing cases of water on set. Instead, we are providing crew with a water jug available for refilling reusable water bottles. This change aims to reduce waste! ? #sustainablesets #susty #sustybiz #gogreen

Meet the woman transforming water conservation in Bengaluru with simple, sustainable practices According to her calculations, the majority of households only need fresh water for 30-40 percent of their needs. The rest of their water requirements can be fulfilled by reusing water even if it is cloudy, soapy, or muddy from secondary hidden sources like water from washing hands, pulses, fruits and vegetables, waste RO water, water from defrosting, and washing machine outlet water. “Water that goes down the drain can always serve another purpose,” she advises. https://lnkd.in/g9V-3mPh
