Our ethos when it comes to upskilling people and helping them to get back into meaningful employment after experiencing homelessness is to train then hire. This means that we bring people into roles as tour guides feeling confident, inspired and ready to use their new skills. It also means that people have a whole load of new skills that might help them into other roles if they decide being a guide isn't quite right for them. That could be confidence, public speaking or story telling, all great transferable skills. You can read all about our approach to training and hiring right here: https://lnkd.in/ex-jHc9w #meaningfulemployment #homlessness #socialenterprise

Experience letters are important documents that reflect an employee's tenure and contributions within an organisation. They play a crucial role in verifying employment history, aiding in career progression, and building trust with future employers. These letters provide a comprehensive overview of an employee's roles, responsibilities, and achievements, serving as proof of their professional journey. Crafting these letters with accuracy and transparency is essential for maintaining integrity and credibility. Any discrepancies or omissions can lead to misunderstandings or mistrust, impacting both the employee's and the company's reputation. Sometimes, employees take a sabbatical and return to the same organization after a few months. In such cases, should the experience letter for these employees mention the break in service? Would there be any risk to the employer if this break is not indicated in the letter? Our Youth Voice Ambassadors met with Holly Kelleher and Natalie Hawkins from BASE (British Association for Supported Employment) for the first time to discuss the action plan for the vocational profiling commission that we will be working collaboratively on. The meeting allowed us to make sure our views about how vocational profiles - a person-centred resource that is designed to support a jobseeker to identify the right career for themselves - should be implemented, and aligned with BASE's, before agreeing on the next steps to take this piece of work forward. The commission is part of our work on the Connected Futures project (https://lnkd.in/eRH5S-Ec) in partnership with Nottinghamshire County Council, East Midlands Combined County Authority, and Derbyshire County Council. #youthvoice #vocationalprofiling

Pathway to successful reintegration.. Education that is relevant to experience. Transferable skills are aplenty in prison I was surrounded by storytellers, creators, engineers, fixitgirls, personal trainers, teachers, Kuia, artists, drivers, and musicians. 5600 hours of study and programs personally and still not employed. Make education relevant.. entrepreneurship, business development, law, processes and frameworks, communication, life skills and IT development and software. Making better use of time served may even see a reduction in recidivism and offending may become less of a survival strategy!!! Alexandra Lutyens ??

Jordan Bremer and I have a conversation about our careers before we were social workers. As social work supervisors, Jordan and I work with helping professionals at various stages of their career, sometimes newly graduated professionals. What we talk about hopefully will inspire early career professionals who may not realise just how transferable their skills from their earlier jobs are (even if they don’t seem directly relevant to your professional discipline). Watch the video to find out what Jordan and I did before we became social workers ? #careerinspiration https://lnkd.in/gnpd5mBn
