Her talk is titled "Adopting Open-Source Tools for Time Series Forecasting: Opportunities and Pitfalls". ?In addition to introducing sktime and skforecast as case studies, she will also guide the attendees through the broader considerations of tool selection for forecasting. We will emphasize the importance of Data Understanding, Data Preparation, and Backtesting in building effective and reliable forecasting pipelines. I recently learned a hard lesson on Researcher Bias! One of the community building tools out there is Discord. I have been a casual user of it for some special interest groups I belong to. I never really thought much of it, just a way to chat with some people and post fun GIFs. I started fooling around with it as an administrator and even set up my own server for my Data Science With Dennis community. I set up all the right permissions, made sure that someone could join in a smooth manner, all those things. But I sat on the server for about a month. "Does anyone even use Discord any more? I'm not even sure people would join. Or what if I open it and I'm bombarded with questions?", I would tell myself. I had the server but it wasn't available to anyone, I didn't give anyone the address, I didn't send out any invites. Well, I finally decided to open it about two weeks ago and today we had our 100th member join! We are building a thriving community where everyone is helping each other and there are some really interesting discussions on there. Shame on me for not recognizing my own researcher bias! The community is fantastic, I have some moderators that help me keep the conversations fun & inclusive, and the membership numbers have far-exceeded my expectations (where did all these people come from?!?!?!).
