The true power of Notion is all about displaying the same data set in different ways. My one tip for today is to keep playing the role of a UX designer when building Notion systems - build as many advanced databases as you’d like, but always keep the end user in mind and don’t hesitate to create simplified and unified dashboards with filtered database views. That’s where Information Architecture (IA) comes in. IA is all about organizing and structuring content in a way that makes sense to users. It’s like building a roadmap that helps them navigate through the product smoothly. Information Architecture (IA) plays a pivotal role in how users interact with and navigate through digital products. It’s essential to present information in a way that aligns with the users' mental model, ensuring a logical flow and reducing cognitive load. For today's post, I’m showcasing the IA of a medication reminder app I’m currently designing. The IA highlights how the app organizes and presents content, ensuring that users can quickly and easily access the most important features—like medication tracking, health metrics, and reminders. In this IA: The Homepage serves as the central hub, leading users to key sections like Today's Medication, Reminders, and Quick Actions. Medication Management flows directly from the homepage, giving users clear paths to view or edit their schedules. Health Metrics and Reminders are also easily accessible, ensuring seamless navigation between features like health tracking and scheduling new reminders. Each section is organized to reduce the number of clicks, helping users find what they need without unnecessary friction. This layout ensures that even the least tech-savvy users can navigate the app effortlessly, while still offering enough depth for those looking for more advanced features. By organizing content in a clear hierarchy, users can experience smoother navigation, better task completion rates, and an overall more satisfying user experience.
