?? Attention recent grads and college students! ?? You've probably heard it a million times: "Experience is key." And guess what? It's true! ?? But fear not, because I've got the ultimate strategy to help you level up your resume and land that dream job: INTERNSHIPS. ?? Here's the scoop: according to industry insiders, internships are the HOLY GRAIL of work experience for us college folks. ?? And here's the kicker: one year of internship experience is worth its weight in gold. Yep, you heard that right! It's equivalent to TWO internships in your first two years PLUS a six-month gig in your final year. ???? Now, here's the real talk: even if it's not a full-time gig, snagging a year-long internship is still a MAJOR win. It's all about building those skills, making those connections, and proving your worth in the professional world. ?? And hey, here's a pro tip: internships aren't just a summer thing. Nope, they can happen ANYTIME, ANYWHERE. Winter break? Check. Spring semester? Check. Live projects with college support? Double check! ???? Speaking of which, I recently had an eye-opening experience during an interview where they mentioned they were on the lookout for full-time hires. ???♂? It's a reminder that while internships are fantastic for getting your foot in the door, the ultimate goal is landing that full-time role. And trust me, with the right mix of experience and determination, you'll get there! ???? So, fellow grads and students, let's make moves, seize opportunities, and show the world what we're made of! ?? #CareerJourney #InternshipsRock #FutureLeaders

I recently had an insightful interaction with an internship applicant that left a lasting impression on me. As we sat down to discuss the internship opportunity, the applicant posed some thought-provoking questions: "What role will I play during the internship? Will it be a dummy project, a live project, or a customer-facing project? How does the career progression look within the organization?" These questions struck a chord with me. They weren’t just about understanding the internship role but about envisioning a future within our organization. They demonstrated a curiosity and a desire to make an informed decision – traits I deeply admire. In the hustle and bustle of campus placement seasons, it's easy to forget that the process is a two-way street. While companies are busy selecting the best candidates, candidates are also evaluating companies. It’s crucial for students to ask these meaningful questions during company presentations. Doing so not only helps them understand what lies ahead but also empowers them to make choices that align with their career aspirations. To all the aspiring interns and job seekers out there, remember: It's not just about being selected by a company; it's also about selecting the company that's right for you. Be curious, ask the tough questions, and seek clarity. Your future is too important to leave to chance. Embrace this journey with an inquisitive mind and a discerning heart. Choose wisely and strive for the best fit for your career growth. After all, a well-informed decision today can shape a successful tomorrow. #careertips #campusseason #placements

Internships -- the first tentative step in most careers -- are drying up, Jo Constantz reports for Work Shift. Internships listed on?Handshake fell more than 7% from last June through May compared with the same period a year earlier.?And each available internship received nearly double the applicants. "Honestly, I don’t remember a time when getting an internship has been this challenging," said longtime career coach Lesley Mitler. The current "era of efficiency" has put internships on the chopping block at some employers. “Internship programs are expensive: You have to use part of your HR team to oversee these interns and make their lives great,” said Julia Pollak, chief economist at ZipRecruiter, which registered a14% drop in internship?listings.“You have to pay them and not necessarily get great quality work out of them.” Some companies that have pared back internship programs are offering workshops?that cost less and come with a lower time commitment, said Sean McGowan, director of employer relations at Carnegie Mellon University.?“None of these companies can afford to take their brand fully out of a campus —?you’ll lose your talent to your competitor,” he said. Is it wise for companies to dial back or eliminate internships? What is your organization doing this summer? How I Landed 3 Internships and Earned $10K+ Per Month Without a Big-Name University When I first started my journey, I didn't have the backing of a prestigious university. I didn't graduate from a "target school" or an Ivy League; in fact, my university is one that most people haven’t even heard of. But I didn't let that hold me back. Instead, I focused on something I knew I could control—my determination and my ability to connect with people. I knew internships were crucial for breaking into the industry I was passionate about, but I also knew I wouldn't have the luxury of on-campus recruiters knocking on my door. So, I took a different approach. ? The Power of Reaching Out I started by researching companies that aligned with my interests and goals. I spent countless hours on LinkedIn, identifying the right people to contact—whether it was a hiring manager, a team lead, or even someone in HR. But I didn’t just send out generic messages. I personalized each outreach, explaining why I admired their work and how I could add value to their team. It wasn’t about begging for an opportunity; it was about showing them that I was ready to make an impact. ?The Results? Three Internship Offers My approach worked. I didn’t just get one internship offer—I got three. And the best part? I had the luxury of choosing which one aligned best with my long-term goals. It felt surreal, but it was also a testament to the fact that your school’s name doesn’t define your worth or your potential. From Intern to Earning $10K+ Per Month Once I started, I treated each internship like a full-time job. I didn’t just complete the tasks assigned to me—I went above and beyond. I sought out projects that no one else wanted to tackle, volunteered for extra work, and constantly asked for feedback to improve. My efforts didn’t go unnoticed. Before long, I was offered contract work alongside my internship, which quickly boosted my earnings. Fast forward a few months, and I’m now making over $10,000 per month. ? I learned that what matters more than where you come from is where you’re headed, and how much grit you’re willing to put in to get there. Key Takeaways: 1. Your School Doesn’t Define You: The name on your diploma doesn’t dictate your future. What matters is your determination and your willingness to put yourself out there. 2. Personalized Outreach Works: Don’t underestimate the power of a well-crafted, personalized message. It’s about quality, not quantity. 3. Exceed Expectations: Always strive to go above and beyond in your roles. It’s the quickest way to get noticed and rewarded. If you’re reading this and feel like you’re at a disadvantage because you didn’t attend a well-known school, know that your future is still in your hands. #Internships #CareerGrowth #JobSearch #StudentOpportunities #InternshipHunt #NonTargetSchools #Networking

Curious about my internship journey? ?? ... ?? After transferring to UVM’s Grossman School of Business midway through my college career, I felt unprepared. Having previously been undeclared, I missed out on essential early guidance like creating a LinkedIn profile, building a resume with the school’s templates, and applying for internships—skills my classmates were already familiar with. ?? Being older than my peers, I felt like I was playing catch-up and was overwhelmed. Eventually, I decided to stop dwelling on my setbacks. I drafted a resume, met with every student success coach I could, and began my search for internships. ?? Amidst finals and writing several cover letters (which felt like a full-time job), a particularly exciting opportunity emerged. I landed an interview the same day I applied, and this role promised invaluable experience and growth in ways that other opportunities wouldn’t. ?? Despite never having done a mock interview and feeling apprehensive, I prepared thoroughly. I researched common interview questions, watched countless YouTube videos, and responded to questions as they were asked. I also researched the company, creating a document on its history, key projects, awards, and culture to refer to during the interview—can you tell I was nervous? ?? Ultimately, my hard work paid off, and I secured the internship at New Breed. I began the internship the same day I started two intensive summer courses that lasted a month. I was unsure if I could handle working from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. M-F and managing my coursework, but I successfully balanced both?and earned an A in both courses. ?? The internship has been incredible, with projects that pushed me in unexpected ways and allowed me to connect with talented individuals. Just today, I built a connection with a new team member over a sunny lunch outside the office, sparking the very reflection you’re reading now. ? Here’s my message to you: No matter where you are or how old you are, it's never too late to chase what sets your heart on fire. Embrace your passions with relentless determination, confront your fears with bravery, and know that every challenge you overcome is a step toward building your inner strength, courage, and unwavering confidence. Your journey is your own—make it extraordinary!

?? As it relates to the conversation regarding a downshift in the volume of internships per position declining, a rise in applications, AI, smaller recruiting teams, and budget cuts; I had an employer tell me recently, "If your students are critical thinkers and problem solvers, like they mention in their resumes, they need to apply that to their networking skills". There needs to be a shift of effort from "Spray and Pray Resumes" to Strategizing and Executing when it comes to research and networking. If you are wondering, "how can I help? What can I do?" Introduce someone in your network to another person in your network. When someone tells you their search is hopeless, challenge them set goals to attend meetups, local gatherings, or chat with a coach. We still live in a world where, "It's all about who you know", So help these folks identify those in their connected network to increase, "Who they know". There is so much more to say on this topic, but the main point is that standing out takes effort, but finding a job or internship is not impossible. #Internships #Standout #JobSearch #Hiring #Talent #Jobs
