Happy Halloween, LinkedIn! PRSSA has had such a great time this month kickstarting our school year, traveling, meeting new members, and learning from guest speakers. Here’s all that we got up to during October. Week 2 of fall term, we hosted a craft night for our first meeting of the year. We had an amazing turnout, and made PR career vision boards out of magazine clippings! It was so great to see familiar faces, as well as many eager new members. What a perfect way to start our year. The next week, our exec team got the amazing opportunity to travel to Anaheim and attend ICON, PRSSA’s international conference. We got to network with tons of industry professionals, attend professional development panels, and connect as a team. ICON is quickly becoming one of our favorite annual traditions, and we can’t wait for next year! Once we got back home to Eugene, we hosted two former Ducks as guest speakers at our chapter meetings: Raelyn Martin from Mythology, and Emma Childs from Tik Tok. The biggest takeaway we had from both of these speakers is that connections are everything! The PR industry is an extremely large network of professionals, and you never know where one small interaction can take you. October was such an amazing month, and we can’t wait for the rest of the year!

Popped into LinkedIn Dublin HQ yesterday for a quick coffee with Jennifer Ryan. Jennifer has been incredibly supporitve to me across the past year, spotlighting me across a number of articles, newsletters etc. As we chatted all things content, I was reminded of the key questions we should all ask ourselves before posting on LinkedIn, especially for those of us building businesses. Before you click 'post' ask yourself the folllwing 3 questions: ?? Is it insightful? ??Is it valuable? ?? What is the message? As tempting as it is to share all our personal stories on this platform, the true purpose is to knowledge share and add value to our communities. Follow me, Amy for LinkedIn content tips ??

The year greeted me with a sense of possibility, a quiet whisper of hope that things could truly be different. "What a year this will be!" I declared to myself on the very first day, a bold and optimistic proclamation. I could feel it in my bones—this year was destined for something greater. Bishop Dag Heward-Mills had declared it a year of Greater and Better, and those words resonated deeply with me. They weren’t just lofty ideals floating in the air; they were a direct challenge to me, a call to action to reflect on my life and decide, “What do I want to do greater and better this year?” The answer didn’t come to me immediately. My thoughts danced around various aspects of my life—family, relationships, health—but eventually, they landed squarely on my career. I’d been pondering how I could elevate not just what I do, but how I present myself to the world. That’s when the idea of focusing on branding and public relations took shape. And then, as if the universe had been eavesdropping on my thoughts, a door opened. Not long after I made up my mind, I received a link to join a training session organized by RTC Foundation The training promised to equip participants with the skills to master LinkedIn—a platform I’d always known was important but had never quite figured out how to use effectively. Excited, I signed up. I told myself, “No more procrastination, no more excuses. This is the year of greater and better—and it starts now.” Fast forward to today, and here I am, typing this blog post with a huge smile on my face. Why? Because I’ve just attended my first session, and I can already feel the shift. Under the expert guidance of Dr. Benedicta Adwoa Hayford, I’ve started to see LinkedIn not as just another social media platform, but as a powerful tool for personal branding and professional growth. The tips she shared were practical, insightful, and, honestly, eye-opening. From crafting a compelling headline to optimizing the “About” section, and having a LinkedIn banner, every nugget of wisdom felt like a step forward in my journey to becoming the professional I’ve always envisioned. What struck me the most wasn’t just the technical advice, but the bigger lesson beneath it all: #intentionality. This year, I’ve vowed to be intentional about how I present myself—not just on LinkedIn, but in every aspect of my life. It’s about showing up, giving my best, and striving for excellence in all that I do. So here I am, at the very beginning of what feels like a transformative year. There’s still so much to learn, so much room to grow, but I’m filled with gratitude for this first step. I’ve realized that sometimes, the universe rewards clarity of thought and a willingness to take action. To anyone reading this, I want to leave you with one thought: What do you want to do greater and better this year? Whatever it is, I hope you embrace it wholeheartedly. Let’s make this a year to remember—together.

522 folks are attending this powerful Linkedin Live Event! ?????? ?????? ?????? ???? ????????? There are always signs when your employment in a toxic workplace is about to be terminated. Join me for a raw discussion & learn the signs. ? Dr. Taylor summoned me to her office. "Listen, Jacquie," she said, leaning back in her chair & almost salivating with glee, "Michael's going to attend the SF Leadership Calls in your place from now on." In my place? I thought to myself. Yeah, I don't think so. "Thanks," I politely said, "but that isn’t necessary. The conference calls are on Thursdays when I'm on campus, so there's no need for him to attend." Dr. Taylor stared at me, pursing her lips together so tight they started turning blue. Then, she took a deep breath. "Read between the lines, Jacquie. I'm going to promote you soon. Michael needs management exposure to replace you as Director. Understand?" Not only did I not understand, but I was also suspicious of her motives. There was a Latina employee on my team, Marisol, who had seniority & was better qualified. And why was she so interested in my department all of a sudden? I didn't even report to her. And where was my boss? "A promotion would be great," I said, trying to remain calm. "Michael & I can attend together." Suddenly, Dr. Taylor leaped from her chair like she was possessed, leaned over her desk with both palms lying flat, & roared at me, spraying spit with each word, "Are you deaf? I said you are not to be on that call!" As she stood there glaring at me, I wiped her spit from my face, trying hard not to punch her bish ass. Minutes later, she sat back down, ran both hands across her stringy hair, then dropped another bombshell that shocked me even more than the first. "You are not to have any further contact with Corporate. You need to follow the chain of command. If anyone contacts you, I expect to be notified." Then, she rudely dismissed me from her office. I was appalled as I walked down the hall, kicking myself repeatedly for not trusting my initial instincts. Dr. Taylor wasn't just another toxic leader, she was the queen who used mom's stage 4 colon cancer diagnosis as the spark to derail my career when she knew I needed it the most to replace me with Michael, not because he was more qualified, but because he was White. My daughter, Delilah & I, are the international best-selling & award-winning authors of ???????? ??????????. We help employees in toxic jobs fight workplace discrimination because what's happening to them is ?????? ?????????????????????? ????'?? ????????????????????????????. Want to attend this live event. See below for details. ???? Need our help? DM me to schedule a consultation. ??
