We have been accumulating resources and ideas for STEAM-based education since our inception as a nonprofit organization. In this blog post, we have compiled some of them to help K-12 educators spark creativity and curiosity in their classrooms. When you sponsor a child at La Casa de Esperanza's Charter School, you are directly impacting a student's education. Funds raised through the Sponsor a Child campaign help us cover costs not fully funded through the state, such as our after-school programming, LEAP. Leap (La Casa de Esperanza After School Program) provides students with an hour of academic support after school. This gives students individualized support and an opportunity to work in small groups to improve in the areas where they are struggling. Your contributions will also help us cover programs such as Special Education, STEM: Project Lead the Way, and our Math and Reading Interventionist, who provide one-on-one support ensuring our students have the tools they need to succeed. Help our students be all they can be when they grow up, whether it’s a scientist and a doctor, a teacher, or even a superhero! To sponsor a child now, click the link below or contact Maria Wadina for more information at (262) 832-1542 or [email protected]. You can also support this great cause by sharing this post with your network. #SponsorAChild #WisconsinNonProfits #WisconsinCharterSchools #SupportLocalNonProfits

Does anyone have any connections or knowledge on setting up a 501(c)3? Not for the studio, but a separate venture. I’ve been really evaluating where i want to go from here and I’ve decided in addition to the studio, I’d like to start a charity that helps inner city children start an education in video game design/development. I’m currently picturing an after school program that teaches later elementary students (3rd-6th) grade some basics in coding-like Python. It would also focus on all facets, like helping artists create game characters, or writers build a deeper understanding of Video Game Narrative processes. There’s a school abandoned by me that I’d love to turn into a functional after school program. EDIT: after further thought there are additional points to add to strengthen the good it could do: -Instead of 3rd-6th, it could focus on all stages of childhood, through high school. We would partner with the scholarships available to provide additional funding in fields associated, to allow funding for those charities to go even further, doubling the good in the community. -I’d eventually look to bring industry professionals in to mentor, teach, speak, and advise. -I would look to have daycare-focusing on inner-city children means understanding mom and dad can’t afford childcare for the others. These daycares would focus on STEM to encourage development and interest at a young age. -I would look at partnering with the local school districts for after school care as well as potential in school teachings-like Trade Schools. -I would inquire into allowing a membership to allow additional enrollees. Every paid membership pays a membership for another child/family. -This would help encourage development in the industry in the Midwest, and could even set up partnerships/scholarships for college. -We could run a monthly publication, teaching kids how to write articles and build a brand about their writing, and give them experience. There is nothing set up yet, but I’d love to inquire with anyone what this might look like in the state of Michigan. Thanks in advance!

It's true — after many years as operating without a formal organization backing our efforts: Playful Programming is now a California Non-Profit. This will further propel our efforts to create engaging learning resources and bring others into software development! ? Why are we doing this? We believe education, formal or otherwise, can enable an individual to escape bad scenarios they are often placed within due to systemic reasons. This is why this mission is so important to us and our board members. ?? How you can help If you're interested in helping, we're looking for volunteers! ? Write blog posts of any skill level — newcomers welcome; ? Help us build out our website and upcoming endeavors; ? Engage with the community through our Discord; ? Spread the word! ?? What's next for Playful Programming? Beyond our non-profit goals, we have huge plans for 2025 onwards. ? Continue to grow our Book Club; ? Inviting new contributors to join us; ? Developing a new CMS to make publication easier; ? A lot more:

On #GivingTuesday, please consider supporting the CIRCLE Mobile STEAM Lab. Help us Raise $5,000 to expand educational opportunities for underserved Black and Latinx youth and communities in New Jersey through our Mobile STEAM Lab CIRCLE (Collective Initiatives Restore Community Life and Education) is dedicated to advancing educational equity in underserved communities. We bridge the learning gap for low-income Black and Latinx families by providing vital programs in literacy, STEAM, social-emotional learning, and life skills. Our Mobile STE(A)M Lab is at the forefront of this mission, offering hands-on experiences and access to cutting-edge technology to inspire the next generation of innovators. Why Support the CIRCLE Mobile STEAM Lab: 1 )Diverse Representation: Black and Latinx individuals, combine, make up roughly 24% (Black workers make up around 8%, Latinx workers represent approximately 15%) of the STEM workforce. Together, we can change that narrative. (2) Empowerment through Education: By exposing youth to real-world applications of STEAM, we create pathways to brighter futures. (3) Proven Impact: We've grown from serving 10-15 students monthly in our first year to reaching 75-100 students every month, with plans to expand even further. ? How your support helps us: (1) Expand Access: Provide more devices and materials to equip students with critical tools for learning. (2) Enhance Programming: Increase mentorship opportunities with professionals and college students in STEAM fields. (3) Reach More Youth: Support marketing and outreach to grow our impact from 75 to 150 students monthly. ? How You Can Help: (1) Donate: Every dollar brings us closer to our $5,000 goal. (2) Spread the Word: Share our mission with your friends, family, and colleagues. (3) Volunteer: Join our team and inspire the next generation of STEAM leaders. ?? This is a wonderful case study of how we can help companies keep their obsolete merch out of landfills, either through charitable donation facilitation or upcycling/recycling. Read on to learn more ??
So this is pretty exciting for me - I just got to do something combining my passions for small business M&A & sustainability via SwagCycle. In 2021, Grossman Marketing Group acquired a fantastic business in Stamford, Connecticut, PCI Creative Group, run by sisters Anne Chiapetta and Mary Ferrara. They and their team have continued to thrive over the past 3 years, and we have learned a lot from them. During a recent inventory cleanup, they came across some like new notebooks, pens, and other office items branded with the PCI logo. This is one of the reasons we started SwagCycle - to find homes for high-quality merch that had become obsolete because of corporate M&A. Not only can this create positive social outcomes, but it also keeps items out of landfills. These items were sitting in Connecticut, so we matched the items with our friends at CASTLE, Inc. (Colchester Alternative School Age Total Learning Experience), a nonprofit, 501(c)3, nationally recognized and accredited child care center that has been serving children and families in Colchester, CT and surrounding towns since 1991. CASTLE programs are available for children in preschool through 8th grade and include before and after school care, pre-kindergarten and school readiness.?CASTLE supports working families and provides continuity of care for children through year-round programming during school holidays/closings, vacations and summers. It's great to see these products live on to benefit the community!

Our nation has a literacy problem. 130 million Americans read below the equivalent of a sixth-grade level, according to the US Department of Education.?Students with learning differences like dyslexia, blindness, and physical disabilities are at even greater risk of falling behind. Too many students who struggle with literacy have been labeled as “troubled.” At Benetech and Bookshare, we reject this label and see the learning potential in all students, regardless of their ability. Every student can learn when provided with the books and tools that work for them. Join us in getting into “good trouble.” With your help, we can only continue to reverse the large decline in literacy in each community at a time. Get into good trouble today– by investing in our nation’s literacy.
