I had a great couple of days attending EduTECH 2024 - connecting with colleagues, lots of learning, and also the opportunity to share insights from my ongoing PhD research on teaching algorithmic literacy in Australian schools. Whilst there were so many great sessions, some key takeaways for me were: GenAI and assessment: Amidst concerns about cheating, we must keep the focus on the core question:?How valid is the assessment, and are students truly gaining the knowledge they need??(Phillip Dawson) GenAI in higher education: As we embrace GenAI, it's crucial to remain aware of the potential for new digital divides. (Jason M. Lodge) Using data effectively: It’s not about being data-driven but data-informed. We should collect data in alignment with specific purposes, consider diverse data types (not just the numbers), and use this information to drive meaningful action (Dr Selena Fisk) Virtual reality in education: Craig Sims from Curtin University showcased how VR is being used to boost student engagement within the School of Education. #EduTECH2024 #AlgorithmicLiteracy #EdTech #PhDResearch #HigherEd #CurtinUniversity

A lot was written about #emerging #technologies, including #AR, #VR, and #AI, in the past months, be it in #education in general, in #mathematics education in particular, or other. Nonetheless, there are still more questions than answers at this stage! This research area offers ample room for innovation, creativity, debates, all towards trying to reach new ways and approaches to improve offerings that could support #teachers, #students, #policymakers, and all stakeholders in general.
