Did you know? According to a study by the National Association of Colleges and Employers, only 18.1% of interns are Hispanic or Latino. Even more concerning, Hispanic students are more likely to never have an internship, and a mere 7.9% of paid internships go to Hispanic students. ? It's key to recognize the importance of paying interns, especially to attract students who equally need the experience and financial support. Many Latino and minority students work tirelessly to support themselves and their families through college, making paid internships not just beneficial but necessary. By offering paid internships, companies can level the playing field and provide valuable opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds to gain hands-on experience, build professional networks, and pave the way for future career success. If we work together, we can create inclusive internship programs that support and empower students of all backgrounds and bridge the gap to equal access to opportunities for the next generation of leaders. #LatinosAreTheFuture #EmpowerLatinos #Internships

So important for everyone to consider the impact of these statistics. There is so much to unpack and take into account within these statistics. For my fiends hiring interns…have we considered who we are hiring? Diversifying industries isn’t something that happens from one day to the next. I would love to see the breakdown for other demographics. Dissertation focus? ?? ??

Did you know that only 7.9% of paid internships are currently secured by Hispanic students? This statistic highlights a significant opportunity gap that we have to fix to build a more inclusive and diverse workforce. As employers, we have a unique opportunity to make a tangible impact. By offering paid internships, we can create better opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds and ensure that economic barriers do not hinder their professional growth. By making these changes, we can bridge the gap and ensure that Hispanic students, and all students from diverse backgrounds, have equal opportunities to thrive in their careers. Let’s work together to create a future where diversity is not just an aspiration but a reality. Your efforts in offering paid internships can help shape a more inclusive and equitable workforce. #PaidInternships #HispanicStudents #FutureWorkforce #wearethefuture #CareerGrowth #latinos

TLDR: College internships make a huge difference in the post-college prospects of many students. Let's all agree that we should pay interns a decent wage so that internships aren't only accessible for the affluent. A great WSJ article about Gen Z interest in skilled trade careers (e.g., welding) led me down a rabbit hole of reading about the successes and challenges of recent college graduates. A relevant section here: "Securing even one internship during college significantly improves the odds of landing a college-level job upon graduation, according to the study. For humanities and psychology majors, the rate of underemployment five years after college dropped by a quarter with an internship. Among social-sciences majors, it fell by 40%." Internships work. Paid internships make internships accessible. P.S. I'm proud to say that Radion Health pays its interns $25/hour. It isn't too late to apply.

As the end of the summer nears, many college students will be wrapping up their internships. According to various studies, only about 47% of them were paid. Unpaid internships reflect a huge inequity issue in our country. A National Association of Colleges and Employers 2021 study indicated that women, Black, Hispanic, and first-generation college students were underrepresented in paid internships compared to their white, male, non-first-gen counterparts. If you are in a position to advocate for a #PaidInternship at your place of employment, feel free to use this position paper by NACE to help you make your case: https://lnkd.in/eBXeKgPT What was your own #internship experience? #MakeYouThinkThursday
