Lovely report
Beyond lovely to read feedback like this on the?Dementia UK?‘Living with dementia’ guide. The guide's part of our 'We live with dementia' campaign. First released in Jan 2023, the doc's been updated this January and re-released alongside striking new campaign videos, OOH/DOOH and a series of mini bite-size-guide accompaniments. It’s been a team effort from start to finish: ?? Sections and advice are based on insights from their helpline. ??? Tips came from chats with the charity's specialist dementia nurses – sharing the same advice they give families day-to-day. ?? People from across the charity supported on researching and reviewing. Together, we’ve produced a really personal, practical and accessible document to help people who feel utterly lost find the help they need. If you’re living with dementia, or know someone who is, download your guide here https://lnkd.in/ewPJfkhq

?? Reflecting & Acting – World Alzheimer’s Day and Dementia Awareness Week As we observe Dementia Awareness Week, which commenced yesterday, we approach another significant date—World Alzheimer’s Day on September 21st. Both occasions are deeply personal to me; today marks the anniversary of my father’s passing due to Alzheimer’s. ?? This personal loss has profoundly impacted both my professional focus and personal life, emphasizing the urgent need for awareness, support, and research into this still incurable disease. To acknowledge these important days, I encourage everyone to engage with organizations and initiatives dedicated to combating Alzheimer’s and dementia: Deutsche Alzheimer Gesellschaft e.V. Selbsthilfe Demenz Gesch?ftsstelle Nationale Demenzstrategie ?? Participate in local events and activities (Map&Info: https://lnkd.in/eMV5kRrX) Each of us can make a difference—whether through donations, volunteering, or simply by discussing our experiences and raising awareness about the challenges and advances in treatment and care. Dementia Action Week is only one week, but the Fight Continues! As Dementia Action Week 2024 is starts to approach an end and I look at what has been achieved. This week has been a powerful display of unity by the Alzheimer's Society, our incredible supporters, and dedicated partners. Together, we've raised awareness and aimed to deepen understanding of the impact dementia has on individuals, families, and the care system. But Dementia Action Week is just the beginning. The reality is the fight for change doesn't stop. Dementia continues to have a devastating impact on lives long after this dedicated week. Families are pushed to their limits, and an already strained care system struggles to cope. The current situation is simply unsustainable. Dementia is the UK's biggest health and social care crisis. We need the government to recognise the true scale of this challenge and work to implement systemic change. Join us in calling for action! Share this post, donate, or get involved to campaign for change. This year we are asking for anyone to share their story. Building a Dementia-Friendly Future Together This Dementia Action Week, we encourage everyone to learn more about dementia and help create a dementia-friendly future. What Is Dementia? Dementia is a brain condition—not a normal part of aging. It encompasses various medical conditions like Alzheimer’s disease, affecting mood, memory, thinking, and behavior. It's progressive, with symptoms worsening over time. While dementia can happen to anyone, it's more common after 65. In Australia, over 421,000 people live with dementia, making it the leading cause of death for women and the second overall. Support Is Available There's no known cure, but treatments for symptoms and support are available. Dementia Australia offers information, education, and a 24-hour National Dementia Helpline at 1800 100 500 for emotional support and guidance on services like My Aged Care and the NDIS. Supporting Our Multicultural Communities At Australian Multicultural Community Services (AMCS) we support seniors from multicultural backgrounds, including those with dementia and their families. We understand the unique challenges in culturally diverse communities. Our Services Include: - Culturally Sensitive Dementia Care: Personalized Home Care Packages with culturally familiar activities. - Dementia-Specific Social Support: Group activities that stimulate cognition and reduce isolation, incorporating cultural traditions. - Support for Caregivers: Respite care options to provide relief for primary caregivers. - Educational Resources: Workshops and seminars on managing dementia and accessing support services. Empowering Positive Change By working together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of those affected by dementia. Providing culturally appropriate support helps individuals live with dignity and stay connected to their communities. Take Action Today - Learn More: Visit Dementia Australia (https://lnkd.in/gySp5v84) - Reach Out: Contact Australian Multicultural Community Services (AMCS) at (03) 9689 9170 or visit www.amcservices.org.au. - Spread Awareness: Share this post to raise awareness and support a dementia-friendly future. Did you know that September is World Alzheimer's month? It is a global opportunity to raise awareness and support people affected by the disease. So many people still wrongly believe that dementia is just a part of the normal ageing process which is why it is so important to change perceptions and increase knowledge around Alzheimer's disease and dementia. Dementia is a general term for a decline in mental ability severe enough to interfere with daily life, while Alzheimer's is a specific disease. Alzheimer’s is the most common cause of dementia. Things we can do to help spread awareness this month: ?? Use your voice and share your story - how has dementia impacted your life? ?? Make a donation to Dementia UK to help make calls for improved dementia care louder than ever before ?? ?? Attend events put on by your national association or fundraising #WorldAlzheimersMonth #Dementia #MakeaChange

Day 21 of Brain and Alzheimer's Awareness Month! All this month, I will post a quick and simple mini-challenge to give your brain a QUICK WIN! Today’s challenge is to share your gifts with the world…volunteer! In addition to just feeling good, volunteering has been shown to increase lifespan and stave off dementia and Alzheimer’s…especially in retired people. Volunteering can get you physically, mentally, and socially engaged, relieve stress, and (perhaps most importantly) make you feel like you are contributing to a greater cause. Contributing to a meaningful cause can help you fight Cognitive Enemies by increasing your brain reserves and resilience, as well as boosting your memory and executive function (or mental “skills”). The more you do it, the more benefit your brain will gain! For today’s challenge, get a date?on your calendar?for a cause you already work with OR commit to joining one of the many available opportunities. Most people “have been meaning to ____ ” when it comes to volunteering anyway, so today is the day…for the sake of your brain health!?
