What are we doing to provide greater support to students in light of the recent tuition fee increase? That's what our President and Vice-Chancellor Duncan Ivison discussed with The University of Manchester Students' Union's Union Affairs Officer, Alexandra (Lexie) Baynes, when they caught up recently.
Great news! Well done. I agree that if university aims to attract real talent from abroad, it will need to invest in a few scholarships covering full tuition fees and cost of living. It is students from disadvantaged backgrounds that are the most driven, committed and mature. I hope I am the example for this as I laveraged my bachelors at UoM to now work at Uni of Cambridge. Without masters! However, I was only able to study at UoM because I was eligible for student finance pre brexit. The limitation still was that I had to work at least 20 hours a week in order to be eligible for maintenance loan. It was extremely hard, but I persevered due to my extraordinary drive that all foreign students from disadvantaged backgrounds have and also the Manchester Bursary helped me to focus more on studies and spend some free time like an average UoM student :)
So happy to see so many students who have fallen through the cracks finally be heard. Extremely fulfilling to see so much of the work I did last year come to fruition! Couldn’t have happened without all the fantastic cooperation between UoM and UMSU ??
It's so important to put out this information.
Great job! Students need all the help they can get! Getting through 7 years of Architecture school and internship was a challenge! Glad I made it!
Sir Gavin Dodsworth has deep pockets, perhaps he can throw a few quid in.
Congrats! Sounds great.
