? Very interesting the 2024 edition of the 'Innovation Forum 4 Plastics' held in Brussels on April 19. An event organized by EuRIC - The European Recycling Industries on behalf of the CIMPA project, with the support of the European Research Executive Agency (REA) and as a side event of the World Circular Economy Forum WCEF. There different innovative solutions from EU-funded projects to reduce #plasticwaste and boost plastic #recycling and #circularity were presented. ?? 70 participants attended this event organized by DG RTD of the European Commission and European Research Executive Agency (REA), which aimed to enable the co-creation of a mapping of R&I needs, gaps and priorities in the #plastics sector, which could feed into the programming of the #HorizonEurope 26-27 Work Programme and beyond. The event presented the Circular Plastics Cluster, a coalition of 7 EU-funded projects, and highlighted the results of the associated projects CIMPA, CIRCULAR FoodPack, SOL-REC2 and Merlin, focused on multilayer plastics recycling. In addition, the recently funded STOPP PROJECT, Magno EU Project, ViSS project and REBIOLUTION_project gave presentations on #sustainable plastic food packaging. The results of projects on circular technical plastics, such as PRIMUS, Green3D, Circular Flooring and PLAST2bCLEANED, were also presented. ?? On the Magno EU Project side, there were three important contributions from our partners, by Phil Rosenow from Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging IVV , Luigi Operato from DNV and Wael Hamd from the University of Balamand. ?? ????????-???????? ?????????? ?????? Ferr-Tech has joined the Polymer Science Park (PSP), the innovation hub for applied plastics technology. PSP accelerates sustainable and circular plastics solutions through R&D and a strong network. Judith le Fèvre, co-owner of Ferr-Tech, gives an insight into this collaboration. As an active player in polymer recycling, Ferr-Tech offers an innovative solution: FerSol?, which allows plastic flakes to be washed at room temperature instead of the usual 85°C. This not only saves energy, but also reduces the use of harmful chemicals, contributing to a more sustainable recycling process. "We are making a significant contribution to making recycling more sustainable," concludes Le Fèvre. The link with PSP was established at the Plastics Recycling Show Europe (PRSE) in Amsterdam. "We immediately saw synergies in our expertise," says Le Fèvre. PSP promotes collaboration between companies, research institutes and innovation projects, making Ferr-Tech's green chemistry FerSol? a valuable addition. Looking ahead, Ferr-Tech aims to contribute to projects that promote sustainability in plastics. "Combining our technology with PSP's network accelerates innovation and creates real impact," concludes Le Fèvre.

European senior editor for recycling,?Mark Victory, and?Helen McGeough, global analyst team lead for plastic recycling at ICIS, joined senior editor for recycling?Matt Tudball?to discuss their highlights from the recent 3rd ICIS Recycled Polymers Conference that was held in Berlin on 7th November. Topics covered ranged from ICIS’s own outlook for the recycled markets, panel discussions on collection systems and the ever-popular #chemicalrecycling sector, plus electrical and electronic waste and EU regulation 2022/1616 around food contact, among others. Some of the key takeaways included: - Unexpected positivity despite challenging market environment - The need for and demonstration of strong collaboration through the recycling chain - Regulatory uncertainty still a core challenge for the recycling market The issue of regulation was clearly on the mind of many delegates, as the two surveys conducted throughout the course of the conference show.
