Yesterday was World Premature Baby Day, and as a company that works closely with premature baby wards, we asked ourselves: What can we do this time specifically?’ Compassion is important and strengthens premature baby families in an emotional and often challenging time. But there is so much more we can all do: as friends and family, we can support premature baby parents by providing practical help such as shopping, looking after siblings or simply listening. However, structural improvements are also needed at the societal level! One major lever would be the Family Start Time Act (Familienstartzeitgesetz) in Germany, which would enable parents of premature babies and all newborns to take more time off and receive better parental benefits. But although it has been discussed for years, nothing has happened so far. That's why we think we should be political on this World Premature Baby Day in order to really help families of premature babies - together with you, our community: We ask you to use Abgeordnetenwatch to write to your members of parliament and ask: ‘Are you committed to ensuring that the Family Start Time Act is passed before the new elections?’ Together we can make a stand and show that compassion can be complemented by concrete action – for families of premature babies and for all parents. ??

Reflections on a Year at Epoch Elder Care: A Journey of Growth and Empathy As I mark my first anniversary with Epoch Elder Care, I find myself reflecting on the countless experiences that have shaped me, both professionally and personally. When I joined this Epoch, I expected to enhance my skills, meet inspiring people, and grow within my role. What I didn’t anticipate was the profound shift in my understanding of empathy and caregiving that this journey would bring. Before coming to Epoch, I believed empathy was a natural trait—something you were either born with or not. But this past year has opened my eyes to a different reality. Watching our care team, I’ve seen empathy come to life in the small, genuine moments they share with each resident. Each interaction, from a comforting smile to a patient ear, is filled with such warmth and attentiveness that it’s impossible not to be moved. Their dedication has taught me that empathy is more than a trait—it’s a choice we make in each moment, a skill that grows through every connection, every act of kindness. Witnessing these everyday acts of care, I’ve realized that empathy isn’t something fixed; it’s something that deepens when we make the effort to truly see and understand others. This year has been filled with lessons that extended far beyond textbooks or professional qualifications. From celebrating small victories to supporting residents through difficult days, each experience underscored the importance of human connection in elder care. I’ve learned to appreciate the little gestures—the warm smile, the reassuring touch, the shared stories—that can make a world of difference to someone’s day. Epoch has not only given me the opportunity to grow in my career but also allowed me to become part of a community that deeply values respect, kindness, and genuine care for the elderly. As I look back on this year, I feel grateful for the journey and excited for the many lessons and experiences still to come. Empathy, I now know, is something we can all strive to cultivate, and I’m grateful to be in a place where that is valued every day.
