In 2023, a record 653,000 people experienced homelessness in the U.S. That’s a 12 percent increase from the year before. Homelessness in America is a growing problem that requires compassion and empathy to solve. What steps is your organization taking to address this complex issue?

This is such a sad statistic for America. The numbers will no doubt be higher for this year, 2024. The price of everything has remained high for several years, the two "biggies" being rent and food. Gas prices bumped up over 30 cents a gallon in the last few days in my neighborhood. Eggs bounced back up to almost $4.00 a dozen. I won't pay that, and I love eggs. They had gone back down to $2.38 a dozen last month. I'm searching for a part or full-time job at almost 65 years old so I will not become homeless in a year. I would have to sell my car by Spring to pay rent and afford food. Very sad times we live in, although I'm a super positive and happy person. I'm the most unmaterialistic person I know and thankful I am also not a "fashionista!" Living the simple life has been my M.O. for over 40 years on my own. I pray for all the individuals and families struggling in this economy. America always seems to pull together in tough times and I think the next few years in particular are going to be tough for many. Sending love to the United Way and SAMMinistries for all they do for the homeless population, and they do so much. ??
